Welcome to the forum, shalva rani.

Here's a history tidbit about myself (a little insight about how some of us got started into prepping).

I went primitive camping for the first time when I was 12 years old. That was in 1956. Yeah ... I'm an 'old goat' and a lot has changed since then ... including me.

I didn't have a lot back then ... born into poverty and made do. I had a bed roll, mess kit, cheap hunting knife, wooden matches, army surplus canteen (filled with water), a handful of potatoes, a couple slices of bacon and the desire to be my own person.

I burnt the potatoes (ate 'em anyway) ... bacon was just right and the sky was never darker, and the stars never brighter than that first night camping ... alone in the woods.

If there is an interest you have regarding anything camping, mountain survival or something simple about outdoors let me know and i'm sure I'll have something to share that will interest you.

Welcome to the DPF's ! I love primative camping my only problem is a sensative back so laying directly on the ground is out of the question. like to build me a nice thick leaf mattress!

Your kinda like me Kenprep, I broke my back in 83 and spent most years til 2002 without much pain. Thats when I moved to the sierra's and started getting serious about the outdoors, at least more serious about camping. The Sierra's don't have cattails but with a small two-man tent I'd find a good spot under a pine with a huge needle bed and set my tent there. Sure makes a difference on the back. Camping in rockier areas there have been tall grasses which it takes some work but worth the effort to have some cushioning under you. I have posted info from a "survival bible" I have and i've done alot of whats in there like the old cowboy trick or indian trick of using the rocks and coals from your fire buried in a pit to sleep over. It sure works very well as long as you get the depth of the pit right, otherwise you'll be waking with a hot ass and moving yourself.

Welcome!

I miss primitive camping. I'll NEVER get the wife to do that, lol. I did it in Alaska (during the summer, I'm no fool) as a kid.
