Lasik surg

I'm nearsighted and wear contacts and/or glasses.

Obviously I want to see after SHTF.

Any thoughts on lasik surg re prepping?

Has anyone had it done and can give me feedback with pros vs. Cons?

I've known people who had it done, most I know wouldn't do it again. their eyesight got worse and from my understanding it's 50/50 with it being successful, those ain't good odds but a few of the people love it and it worked for them. I wear reading glasses (an age thing) and was told corrective surgery may fix it but I don't like the odds and for my case I purchase extra pair of reading glasses from the pharmacy. It seems to be a crapshoot?

Laser Surgery only works of certain types of eye defect and in some cases is only a temporary fix, I have been shortsighted my entire life but was recently amazed to find out that my short sightedness actually goes away when I get older, IE my script for glasses has gotten weaker and weaker so I dont really need glasses now.

I think the SAFEST option is to
1 Consult an optician first
2 If your script is constant just buy a few extra pairs of specs and also keep your older specs in reserve.

As SE pointed out, lasik works well for certain types of focusing issues. In the beginning they performed the surgery on everyone, but now they can do tests and determine if it will be a good fix in most cases. I would still advise getting two opinions though. I'm sure there are clinics that just want to push as many procedures as possible for profit. I was a surgical tech many years ago, and even though I didn't personally see many issues, there's always a risk with any medical procedure. I personally decided to just keep a couple backup pairs of glasses. I also don't trash the old glasses as they are still better than none at all. Americas Best Glasses has two pairs with a Drs exam for 69.00. Unless my vision gets really bad, I can't see going through the procedure for me personally.

every time I get a new pair of glasses I don't throw out the old ones they will be useful post SHTF, cant have too many spare pairs!!

If it were me I would wait a few years until the technology has progressed a little more. It just seems like such a big decision to make.

I had lasik when I was in the Corps. It was great for a few years. But when it started to deteriorate. It did so rapidly.
