This pandemic is opening some eyes concerning relying on China so much.

We actually kill chickens and send them to China to process then back here to sell.

No wonder we have errant germs and cap in our food supply.

I contracted campylobacter in 2018 and it was miserable.the CDC interviewed me numerous times but I don't know where I got it. Just know I don't want it again.

I hope it does open some eyes and start some discussions. And it is not just chickens. Fish are caught in the Atlantic and shipped to China and other Asian countries to be processed cheaply. Very few US Fish canneries left. Look at the wild caught fish in Walmart and Kroger and other food stores. Yes it is wild caught but then frozen and sent to other countries to be processed cheaply just read tthe back of the package in VERY SMALL letters. Cheaper than we can process it here. Less regulations. There is a large chicken processing factory not far from where I live. Go there at shift time and watch hundreds of Guatemalans march into the building. Many illegal. Again to process cheaply. I try to buy locally farm raised chicken or raise my own. I like to catch my own fish out of local waters and I am damn particular where. I try to buy cod fresh off the boat from American fisherman.

I live on the lake and hopefully can catch fish if needed.

Raise chickens, but have never eaten one.

We find that egg production drops on chickens after about 2 years. We buy one color chickens one year. The second year we buy a different color/ breed. The third year we buy a different color/ breed and when they start laying we butcher the breed/color from year one and they go into jars as broth or meat and broth for dumplings, pot pies and soups. That way we always have young chickens coming on and production is always at a premium. You have to feed them either way so we want to get our moneys worth. To quote my husband we are not running a geriatric chicken rescue home .
