Downside is that unlike MRE's, the nutritional value of most of those ingredients isn't very high. Canned foods are just as "ready to eat" too.

Another suggestion is the little go packs that many tuna companies make. Those things are always in my pack (and taste great! If you like tunafish, which I do).

For my GHB/BOB though, I just spent the money on some freeze-dried meals. But if just stocking up on things, I can see the ideas in the link having some merit, just focus on including protein like the canned meats suggested, etc.
