I think its best the Feds let Chicago handle this on their own....The Mayor is obviously not worried about it instead choosing to talk about illegal immigrants....
My wife and her fellow gang of Donny Osmond fans were originally planning on stopping in Chicago for a few days on their way home from Vegas, Their tour guide advised them to fly home from Branson or Boston instead.
I have a daughter living in the suburbs of Chicago, with her husband and two grandkids. They like it for some reason and say they feel safe. I just read that there were more shootings this year there than both LA and New York City combined. Can't say I'm not a little concerned.
Some kinfolk defy all logic I'm afraid, they appear to think crime only happens to other people and on TV.

Unfortunately, they may feel like the suburbs are a safe place and it will only happen in the city itself. Even if they are lucky enough to not have something happen in their own neighborhood, sure they venture into the city sooner or later and their percentage rate goes way up then.
UK state luncy on display, In the UK URBAN crime is falling, probably due to the massive CCTV coverage and most modern homes and businesses have upgraded their security, this has led in many parts oof the RURAL UK to a 50% increase in crime especially from farms and isolated communities as the criminals now commute. ( entire herds of sheep have been rustled near me). So what do you think the polices response has been ?? What they have ACTUALLY done is CUT even further RURAL police cover !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My son in law is a district manager over 100+ stores. He travels to them regularly, so is all over on the road constantly. He is ex military, Iraq, and am sure he carries, but that only protects you so much. Reminds me to have a conversation with him about security soon. I understand you do what you have to to provide for your family, but chasing the dollar only goes so far with me.
yep, within the next 5 years there wont be a copper or a police station open in Devon and Cornwall outside of a city. they are quoting "budget cuts", they have already HALVED the number of rural police officers, now they are having a go at the stations themselves.

Just like in the Roman times, security was so bad that it bankrupted the govt trying to cover everything. I'd like to know the real figures it cost to police areas like Times Square on New Years, or the thousands of similar venues around the globe. There are only so many dollars to go towards security, and they should be managed wisely. Like any government can manage money wisely, lol.
My favorite news this week was our congress trying to make a secret vote to get rid of the ethics committee that tries to keep them from being the scum bag lawyers that they are. Sorry, off topic there, just got on a rant.....

i'm in a rural, fairly crime free area, haven't had a serious crime here for years,most of the crime seems to be in a larger urban centre 25 miles away.

to a certain amount I suppose, I know of some that do odd jobs for those less able. and people are very friendly especially those that have lived here for many years, we have lived here for nearly 8 years now and have become part of the "furniture" as we say here!
everyone knows who we are and where we live, which isn't strange when you know what I look like!! grey man i'm not.
