Last Monday after waking up I noticed a strange surrealness feeling than I begin to notice issues with my writing (couldn’t sign my name) my speech was slurred. I ignored it till Thursday things just wasn’t right (luckily Wednesday afternoon the road were passable, snow) on Thursday around 1230 I asked the kids to take to the house in town where the wife was at ( her car couldn’t drive the snowy road going to the property) any way we arrived at the emergency, after 3 minutes of Q&A they called for stroke protocol, they ran test all night Cat-Scan, MRI, Echo and numerous blood draws, the scans showed 3 strokes but have no explanation why the occurred. The heart and lungs are excellent no blockage was detected etc... I was released Saturday. I’m about 85% recovered. Temporarily put me on 75mg Plavix (clopidogrel) and 40mg Zocor (simvastatin) to help me recover and to prevent this from again, more test next week.

It just goes to show, doesn’t matter if one is healthy or not thing will come at you right out of the blue and it couldn’t happen at the worst time, I was snowed in and couldn’t leave in medical emergency thankfully the strokes were small. Don’t take life for granted cause it will throw you a curve ball!

Sorry to hear that Maverick. I'm glad things didn't turn out worse, keep us updated. Not much I can do from here, lol, but my Dad had a series of small strokes last year, same mystery. It was terrifying for him. Wishing you a speedy recovery, and no repeats!

none of us is immortal, it comes to us all eventually, there are only 2 things certain in this life-death and taxes.

Wishing you a speedy recovery and diagnosis. Any number of things can cause stroke, I hope they can clarify things for you soon.

speedy recovery my friend :)
you'd better be around when I come back late next week!!!

that is scary,,,,a little over a year ago I had a scare myself, twice in about a hour my right arm went numb and became very heavy both only lasted about 10 minutes each a year of testing and they never figured out what it was.................I wish you well

sorry to hear. Good thing you made it through okay. Just keep up with your exercise and diet and you will be fine!

Get well Maverick, cayenne pepper mixed in water and drink next time that happens.

One more prayer going your way. Rellgar has an excellent recommendation. I've used it in the past and should be doing it daily. But cayenne pepper does wonderful things to the blood system.

Start small. I started at 1/4 teaspoon in 1/4 cup water & that was rough (I'm not a fan of spicy food). I backed off to 1/8 teaspoon, and that didn't have any impact to my digestive system but still did wonders for my blood system.

And use your head as much as the doctors. Remember that they are just 'practicing', they often are stumped and just as often are flat wrong.

It is scary ****, i was not expecting to come back with a stroke, it's like the whole world gets dumped on ya. I'm not putting off these signs again :-/

Really sorry to hear you got that kind of news Mav. I am glad it wasn’t worse at least. It all depends on where in the brain it happens, and apparently this time you got lucky. Be well my friend and take it easy for a while yet.

Damn, Mav. I’d have thought you were nearly bulletproof. Take care of yourself my friend! I bet you bounce back quick.

I was taking low dose just taking it have been for 5yrs. I was looking at all the blood they tested and nothing is out specs :-/

My heart and lungs are perfectly fine

So I take it your cholesterol was a bit high. The Plavix won’t hurt either.

From what I’ve been told, sometimes it just happens. I’m glad they weren’t too bad.

Since heart attacks run in my dad’s family, I’ve been seeing those guys for over 30 years. They love the statins. My cholesterol is in the 140s but my cardiologist wants me on them anyway. I haven’t done it yet.

He tells me that his was lower but he takes them as insurance and thinks everyone should, but I’m not a fan of living through better chemistry... I’m sure that he thinks I’m just a prick.

Glad you are on the mend. Maybe the doctor would write you a rx for a couple of weeks worth of medication? You would have to pay out of pocket, but it would be good to have on hand in the event you get trapped at home due to weather conditions.
I was going to suggest asking your doctor about low dose aspirin, but it sounds like you are already 5 years ahead of me :)

Yeah, I went on them and feel like I’m in a fog 80% of the time now. Memory is shot too. If you want to be scared just read the entire list of possibilities. It’s far scarier than anything Steven King wrote! These drugs are still relatively new and I’m sure there are side effects still to be discovered. With two arteries partially clogged, 50 and 70%, I reluctantly agreed to start them. Still debating with myself wether a couple extra years is worth it or not....

Dang, glad you're OK and are fully functional.

I took a CPR/first aid class and they taught us that stroke victims often aren't even aware they're having a stroke. Somebody in their company may notice their face drooping or speech slurring, but the victim may not even be aware of it.

My cholesterol is fine, they put me on it because helps with recovery studies showed

I feel ok but tire more quickly, I expect that be around for awhile, my righting skills (putting pencil to paper) is a little off, still problems type so I re-read it couple of times before I hit send, my speech has come back now that I don’t sound like drunk, my vision still a little blurry but improving my depth perception is off so I can’t drive yet. The doctors feel ill make a full recovery in a few month.

No pain what’s so ever, I gone to bed at 9 called my wife everything was good and I was perfectly fine no warning what so ever, I wake up at 3:30 my normal time felt fine but I notice I was running into the wall I’m like wtf, gone to make coffee, I pored a cup of coffee, I sit at the table reading over my list, I was having trouble reading, I had a few checks to sign and that when I notice I couldn’t write, at 4:30 I was giving my wife a wake up call, when she answered and talked a couple minutes she said I sound drunk slurring my words. The next day I called her and it was worse, she was concerned and said I need to get to the hospital but we knew it was impossible she couldn’t get home and I couldn’t leave until Thursday when we could get over ridge. After living without medical treatment for three days and the stroke affecting both parts of the brain they surprised I walked in on foot though the wife made sure I didn’t run into things [emoji6]

You are one stubborn old goat, which is something I will always admire in you, but smart enough to seek medical when you need. When I see you and Lisa, it reminds me of me and my hunny. . . it could have been so much worse, but thank God it wasn't. Glad you are on the mends and I pray for a speedy recovery. If I could hug you both I would, cause that's just how I am.

I've been humbled by it, I think God thought I had to much pride and decided to cut me down to size. Time to pass the torch to the younger ones and enjoy things a little more!!
