Do you come to the prepping section for knowledge, either to collect knowledge or to render assistance....???

Do you come out of curiosity.....??? Do you come to this prepping section to poke fun and attempt to humiliate those who you perceived to be taking prepping far too seriously........??? Do you come to attack the post that others have made, thinking (or hoping) you appear smart or knowledgeable......???

the first line , get different views and angles maybe give different views and angles. try to sprinkle in humor when ever possible , and appropriate. And to show off for the girls

Collect knowledge about how people do stuff, what's important to them, how attitudes affect the mindset. Learn from people I have gotten to know and respect. Reading everything that @Amish Heart takes care of every day wears me out.
I didn't start out here because of prepping, I started out here because it says "homesteading, country living," and what I was hoping to get to eventually. I've been "practicing" prepping since the 1990s and it has helped a lot of times when there was sickness, snowstorms, loss of employment, loss of electric, loss of oil for the furnace, so many things. Am I ready like anyone else is? No, but that isn't for anyone to be concerned about because I'm not begging for a handout.

I’m in it in the same way as our grandparents were, preparing when times are good for when they aren’t, food, water, meds, precious metals, brass, copper, lead .
I’m a survivalist, hunter, father, husband and a self sufficient type person just trying to make my way thru life .

To learn and to be challenged. I've said from the beginning I am here for discourse. Perhaps sometimes I may teach a little- but increasingly I've found that you cannot give people the truth- the best we can hope for is to inspire someone (through negative or positive means) to eventually understand the truth- or a least a higher resolution image of the truth.

That is exactly why I go to the prepping section; to learn from others, and to offer my assistance where it is appropriate. To listen to others who have experienced SHTF events and learn from that experience.

I think a lot of us poke fun at each other, but it is just that, fun. I have never seen it done in a malicious way or done to humiliate anybody. I see it as good natured ribbing, and I hope I have never offended anyone. I hope I would never attack another post, ever. IMHO that is one of the beauties of this site. People are respectful, and we can disagree or offer different opinions without attacking each other. Just my 2 cents.

Why do I come to this topic? It started out that my neighbor is a prepper & he was telling me the things he did. I guess I wanted to see what other people did & to what extent. I realized that my wife is a natural prepper to a large extent because she grew up in the middle of nowhere in a place that was often snowed in.

Me, what do I think about it? I guess that because I've lived through a lot of "this is the end of the world" events I myself tend to discount it as a coming event. Now that doesn't mean that I can't see advantages to stockpiling things for the future. And I'm open minded enough to listen to the pro's & con's of prepping. I believe that we should do what we want & really shouldn't judge other people actions unless they directly affect us.

I'll throw out an idea that I've had in the back of my mind (for a while). We should all prepare for the future, ie. save money, invest, set ourselves up financially in life. You do that for a "just in case" something happens. (Prepare for the worst, hope for the best). Once you've done that wouldn't prepping really be the next logical step?

I'll throw one last comment out there of something that happened. My neighbor went to an estate sale & the guy was a prepper. He had something like a years food stored away made up of bought prepper kits. You know, good for 5 years (or more, I don't remember the exact number of years) type of kits. But he stored them in his garage in the middle of Texas. My neighbor thought that his storage solution was horrible because not only did it often get over 100degrees & stay there for months, but mice had gotten into some of the containers. A proper storage area is a must.

Like @Patchouli , I started out at this forum for the country living that I hope to participate in someday. I come to the prepping section because I want to learn and explore. I don't contribute much and mostly feel that my contributions are nothing stellar but maybe, sometimes, the innocence of my prepping spurs thoughts in others helps them see what the potential unprepared might be thinking. Like @Tirediron I hope to occasionally give some levity and maybe get a hug emoji from him. When stressed, a sense of humor will help you keep from losing your marbles.

I come to assist others.

Before began prepping I read everything I could to learn.
My wife said to prepare the extended family.
We planned to assist up to 60 members, if necessary.

There were no good books on approaching prepping as a group.
So I prepared a plan from scratch.

The result is a Fast way to prep just a family cheaply;
As well as preparing a group fast and cheaply.

The group approach insures each family brings their own food and supplies.
It has rules such that when their supplies run low they will leave where we can support them in all ways except for food (unless someone volunteers to share theirs).

I look for newbys that come here looking for how to do it fast and cheap.
I can then send them specific instructions to accomplish that.
Otherwise they will be overwhelmed by not knowing specific questions of this group.
They then can use this website for specific questions for help.

When in panic, the subject of Prepping is overwhelming. Some need the subject broken down simply.

I look at those threads mostly for inspiration and ideas. I know I'm not as 'prepped' as some, but I'm also much more 'prepped' than others. I can't really talk about it with friends and family b/c many of them don't prep at all and think I'm kinda nuts. I think they probably think I'm a bit eccentric and won't sell anything. Well.....that's true, but there's more to it than that.

I'm not here to compete with anyone. Nobody knows my situation or my level of preparedness so I'm not sure how anyone could judge me. But it is neat to read some posts and learn something new such as how to open a tin can safely without a can opener.

I don't check the forum by section. I just watch for new posts in any section.

Note:
I do have a few section set to ignore. The covid section is one of those.

I too was one who ventured here not as a prepper but as more of a "country living" person. I actually used to get grumpy when someone called me a prepper. Now I just shrug and move on. As far as why I visit the prepping threads, mostly for ideas and perspectives, and potential gaps. When it gets to "if you don't do this you will die" sort of comments, I simply think that's up to the Lord (my belief though not shared by everyone). I actually think the "old" ways - not just 50 years ago but maybe 150 years ago etc. - is a healthier way to live and offers a better chance of survival. If dealing with radioactive chemical robots becomes mandatory, I guess I am okay with meeting my maker, because I believe there is a difference between living and surviving.

Whatever you want to call it, I am a just a dude who understands the fragility of the world we live in and wants to have the skills and resources to continue on awhile longer as the weak and unlucky perish. I am already set and happy but guarded against my tendency towards arrogance by refusing to be ignorant. So I read, analyze, respond, critique and reconsider. Also sarcasm. I am loaded with sarcasm.

Like Neb, I don't look for sections like prepping, and totally ignore a few. But I look at threads that strike a cord. New threads almost always get a look.
Preppibg threads I always read. I may or may not do the same or similar, but if you approach with an open mind, you can almost always learn something, sometimes a lot. Having an open mind don't mean grasping at straws however. But open to giving critical thought to a given topic, see how you can adapt it to your situation.
I do get sick of arguing with folks just to be arguing. Offer a alternative or solution, or just move along. We are all busy with life in whatever form that takes and don't need crap like that.
That said, true humor is very appropriate at times too.

Like others… I’m here for the knowledge. There’s more to it than though… I’ve always had an inherent wisdom (for lack of better words) to see the values in prepping.

That and most of you are an inspiration to me.

The short explanation is I’m here to learn and be inspired to do better in prepping for disasters the future is certain to bring in one form or another.

How do you know their a mistakes?
Or is that your perception of the situation?
Maybe their what they are capable of doing at this moment.
Maybe they have physical handicaps?
Maybe she was referring to failed canning experiences? In that sense we can learn from others, and they have been posted as more or less of a warning… meaning don’t try this. But Mikey might like it… lol

"Maybe we are just eternal optimists?"

Or maybe Normalcy Bias is the worst it has ever been in human history.

The fabric and foundations of modern society are as fragile as the wings of a dragonfly.......but almost no one sees that.......

Those who do, should be prepping like your lives depend upon it.
