Short of an EMP though, any cyber attacks on the grid would be 1) localized, and 2) short-lived. In kind of a luck thing, it's a lot like the Millennium Falcon. It's so jury-rigged together that it isn't centralized, so cascade shutdowns are limited in scope.
 
Hmm, no mention in the link above of the 2013 iranian hack into the power grid in NY taking blue prints to the east coast power grid system, they had access to all systems while in the computers, too this day they don't know what was done while in the systems.
