Wasn't sure where to post this, as this may or may not be "food."

I need help identifying this mushroom, it that's what it is. The base looks and feels like it is made out of rosin, and underground it just looks like a big glob of rosin.

I think I found it. It's the sporocarp phase of a mushroom used in Chinese medicine called 靈芝

It doesn't have an English name, just the Chinese name spelled phonetically in English: língzhī
Scientific name is Ganoderma lucidum

Not poisonous, but too bitter to eat by itself. It is boiled to extract the medicine. Mature it looks like this:

doesn't look like anything I would pick up and eat,'though I like mushrooms alot and collect them in fall
