Here is a picture of the new smoker/grill I just purchased.

It is the Traeger Texas! I have so far made smoked salmon, and pulled pork, pizza, and a few smaller items. ALL came out perfect!

Awesome smoker, I cook more on the grill than in my kitchen, but really haven't learned to smoke much.

My FIL built one out of a 55 gallon drum with an attached firebox welded onto its side. Looks very close to the one you now have. My MIL ended up giving it to my husband after his passing.

My next door neighbor made one very similar to that, and it was an awesome smoker.

Was it an online purchase or did you find it locally?

I got it at Costco. The company is Traeger.

This company takes the guess work out of it. If you should get one I would spring for either one that comes with or buy the digital thermostat separately. It is a time saver!

You will LOVE smoking foods. I built a smoker from a 55 gallon barrel. Vertical design with the box in the bottom. I use a digital thermometer to ensure foods are correctly cooked. Works awesome. Too bad your not closer. I have a bunch of apple wood I could give you.

i have enjoyed the hell out of it! The wife and kids loved the smoked salmon, and I made some killer pulled pork and beef brisket

Ok... I give up what is FIL? I know MIL stands for military... I just can't figure out why the military gave your husband a smoker after your husband's death. Really confusing and frustrating.

I own two smokers, one uses charcoal and wood... the other uses propane (and wood). I have smoked some wonderful things!!! Just last week I smoked two Boston Butts. After 14 hours in the smoker you can just pull the bone out with your finger tips.

My wife's family goes crazy for the food I made in the smoker. I've tried some wild thing and they came out amazing... like brining a turkey in cranberry/pomegranate juice (with salt of course).

I sure would love to own one of those pellet smokers! God knows that I really miss out on sleep when I smoke...would be nice to just set it and forget it!

We should swap some recipes!

It means Father In Law. My Mother in law gave it to my husband after the death of my FIL. I am a big family history buff and am used to using certain shortcuts, just sorry I gave you so much frustration Bravery. Sorry, but you gave me a much need laugh tonight after the day I had, so thank you!!

Oh Danil... I honestly chose the wrong words....I wasn't frustrated AND I'm so happy I made you laugh. You are sweet not to get angry. I hope your husband enjoys smoking as much as I enjoy eating!

I honestly wanted to say you are thinking like a male!, but I refrained, . . . I am not that 'sweet' ;)

I was going to make a crude comment about you being sweet but my W (wife) told me that I better not. I learned years ago that I'm better off when I listen to her (she's Mexican and she keeps her knives really sharp).

Hey, I threaten my hubby and even some of his friends so I am thinking you have married well Bravery!
