Smithfield Foods, Citing "Escalating Costs," To Shutter California Meat-Packing Plant | ZeroHedge

Meat-packing giant Smithfield Foods announced a 1,800-person pork processing plant in California would shutter operations next year, citing the rising cost of doing business in the liberal-run state.

Smithfield, owned by Hong Kong-based pork conglomerate WH Group Ltd., "will cease all harvest and processing operations in Vernon, California in early 2023," the company said in a Friday press release.

I just seen & posted in the other thread about Utah about this.

But I have to ask if anyone else finds it strange that a now Chinese owned company is closing a pork processing plant??? I mean, pork & Chinese go hand in hand,

Ok, sorry......that doesn't sound quite like I meant it......but you'd think China would be happy to be able to provide itself more pork products

They said "WHY". My guess is they will simply move the business to another state.

That's interesting. I saw that whole pork loins at our local grocery store where selling for $1.99/pound this weekend. Is that a good price? I don't know because we don't eat meat.

Well, that's an understatement. California has always been a problem. No?
Ever notice how everything is "known in the state of California to cause cancer or reproductive harm"? The state of California is a cancer IMO.
I also have to just wonder about a liberal state like California being concerned about "reproductive harm", when they're completely supporting abortion. Weird.
