No NOT electric, wind-up. I own about six and they are not loud enough. Please spare me the, "Dude I own this, and it works for me". I wonder if "Consumer Report" has ever done a test.

I used to have to set mine in a roasting pan to make it louder. Not so much anymore but I know what you mean.

@Pearl one time when I was in HS, I had a very loud alarm clock in a roasting pan next to my bed. My folks’ bedroom was at the other end of the house. My mom came in and woke me up- said my alarm woke her and had been going 5-10 minutes. Not hungover or out late. That’s just how hard I slept- until kids 🥴

My Hubby sleeps like that, you would think  fear would not allow that😮🤔😉! I am an extremely light sleeper, always have been! I set my "up" time in my head, I wake up a lot in between, and wake exactly when I intend to wake! And you think you are weird LL😉🤪🧠🛌

Maybe you can find an old one. A friend in college had an old one that was wind-up with the two bells on the top. Looked like one we used to see in cartoons when we were kids. When that thing went off, I thiught the Fire Department was going to show up. I never heard an alarm so loud. No idea what brand it was.

put it on a metal dish, it helps to make the alarm louder, dont know why but it worked for me.
dont need an alarm much these days I wake at 6am every day without an alarm clock.

MEGAPHONE

Get you a small trash can. Set it on its side on your nightstand, open end facing at your head. Place alarm clock inside trash can. If it doesn't help, well, at least you have a new trash can!

(You can test the concept using whatever old trash can you may have laying around, saving yourself a purchase if you find it doesn't work. A plant pot might work as well, just block up the sides so it doesn't roll if it's a round one. Wedge door stoppers might work for that.)

Fortunately I don't have to get up at any specific time anymore...

I sleep soundly, not waking up for people moving around in the house. But when my alarm goes off, that wakes me up at the minimum volume. The volume of the alarm starts out as low as a whisper, then gets louder and louder over time if you don't shut it off. I wake up when it's still at a whisper. I don't know why that wakes me up so easily and nothing else does. Could be my body's internal alarm clock already knows it's time to get up, so the physical alarm is just a backup.

Mind you - I don't always WANT to wake up when that alarm goes off. But I do.

Back in the day I remember getting the most Obnoxious "Surge" ALARM for free at a Texas State Fair. Now I have an alarm that goes off at 2:10 AM.

its not the noise of the alarm, its the ticking of the clock which can keep me awake, I now have a quiet clock.

Actually, I don't mind the early alarm. I get off work by 12:30 pm most days. That is what is nice about my schedule. I have the rest of the day to do whatever needs to happen.

No problem. Keep / use your existing 'wind up' alarm clocks - But, like Haertig suggested, you just need to think Amplification, ie:

..but, simply substitute the 'ass' for Your old-school bell-alarm, Done. :) Battery-powered Skull-exploder example, here:

www.amazon.com/ION-Audio-Block-Rocker-Plus/dp/B07C32XSH1 👍 Yep, even something That 'small', on the nightstand, etc, should both be 'energy-friendly' (for off-grid considerations) and Plenty skull-shatteringly loud. (..and this is 'IME'.. :)

PS - Bonus: As demo'd in the video, w/ this idea, you can always use the 'Ass-Clock' in case of "overstaying-their-welcome Company", down the road, too.. :p

If you are retired, what do you need to wake up for?

Since I retired, I usually just get up when I wake up, could be at 5:30, 7:30 or 8:30. If I have an early appointment, I do have an app that goes off, but it is usually just a pain. Today it went off. Phone was in the bedroom. I was in the bathroom. I heard it and had to go shut it off.

I will think of you getting off work the next time I am wandering around the house at that time - in my robe, with a cup of coffee in my hand, searching for something for breakfast!

That is what is nice about my schedule. I have the rest of the day to do whatever needs to happen.

In my case, that would be ... sleep!

I have never been much of a morning person. But as I get older, I do find myself waking up earlier on occasion. But even then, I find it too early to actually do anything. So on those days when I get out of bed with the sunrise or before, I often times end up reading my book on the couch for a few hours until I feel it is safe to start being productive. That never comes before 8am for me, often times quite a bit later than that! As I look at the clock now, it's 8pm. And I'm still struggling with the "is it safe to be productive yet?" question for today. Always consider safety. Safety first!

I can, and have, slept through a freight train passing by at 25mph, less than 15 feet away. I have also slept through a lightning strike less than 100 yards from my bedroom window. I sleep hard. But I very, very rarely sleep more than 9 hours, unless I'm severely sleep deprived. After 8 or 9 hours, I just wake up. I usually don't get that much sleep though...

Treasure that while you can.
It goes away in the years to come.
Before, I slept like a log 8+ hours straight and had to be blasted awake.
Today, I take an OTC sleep aid, have the TV Soundscapes channel on, and the SleepMate® going, to drown out the tinnitus or no sleep for me.
And then, I only sleep about 4 hours and have to get up to pee; if I'm lucky I get back to sleep for 2 more hours; sometimes not.:(
Just opening the door to my room is enough to awaken me at any time.
