Went back to work on Friday. Had to go to another shop to help out there because my regular shop still had no power. I work for Goodyear. We have approximately 1100 locations nationwide. Anyway Monday was very slow so I had a chance to do an oil change on my truck. The oil filter I used came from Car Quest. I noticed that the filter said Made in the USA. Our old suppliers Napa there filters are made in China. We are moving to Car Quest for better parts and service from them. Now, why would a large company like Goodyear make this kind of move? I think that it's to give the middle finger to China and Bidumb. Keep jobs in America not China. So what's your thoughts on this?

Back before I retired I was in charge of equipment and vehicle maintenance and operations, as well as many other departments. I mandated that all parts ordered were to be made in the USA. If it wasn't available from the US it needed my signature before ordering. Some companies still care about quality and are loyal to our own workers.

A friend of mine does a lot of work on cars; he owns some pretty cool ones. He has resorted to buy parts from China in the past and it doesn't always end well. There are some foreign countries that do produce good options but the stories he tells about some of the stuff he's received from Chinese manufacturers are not encouraging.

I dont necessarily have a problem with buying foreign products, of course I always try to put Americans first. I believe that China is our enemy, they're a communist country that uses slave labor. Why would be contine supporting our enemy? Of course even i have problems buying American made products sometimes and have no choice but to buy foreign.
Many countries produce good quality products. Germany makes some great tools and equipment, Turkey makes some great guns, Taiwan makes some ok stuff, England used to make quality products but i don't see much from there anymore, I've got some good equipment from Canada too.

I found out something a couple weeks ago about Auto part, at least at Oreilys ,,, the mark up is so high that they give their employees a 50% discount on auto parts,,,, that mark up is why so many thumb their nose at buying anything at the local parts store,,,,, I rarely buy from them,,,, do some price comparisons most any part that you need can be had at a much lower price online

I try to always buy from Callahans Auto Parts, Sandusky, Ohio

Since I've been buying new vehicles and equipment I seldom have to buy parts. I do buy a lot filters though and the part store filters are very expensive. For example the air filter on my Perkins generator, John Deere tractor are something like $60 at our only local parts store. Oil filters are like $30. On line they are way less than half that. It pays to shop around. I normally keep a several year supply of filters and oil for all of my equipment.

We found that many Chinese made budget oil filters did not have integral bypass valves fitted, so if the filter clogged the engine was starved of oil insted of the bypass valve letting it keep flowing.

I like Napa for filters, as their Napa Gold air and oil filters are Wix. (Fuel filters too?)

Wix are proven to be top shelf, and the only filter I use now. Pretty sure Wix is USA made?
Wix filters are made in many countries around the world; China, Korea, Poland, Mexico and the USA. Its still a good quality product.

I like Royal Purple oil and filters. But as for Chinese crap, there is nothing made in China, that can't made better in the USA. China makes stuff cheaper. For some that is all that matters. As for requiring parts made is the USA for government work one company I worked for had workers grind off the "Made in Korea" stamp.
