They are cutie pies! We went to the auction house this morning to look for a pig, but they run the goats thru first. I was surprised at what they were going for there. Normally you can get for a lot cheaper than what is privately sold, but it has been awhile since we had gone. Even mixed breeds were going for inbetween $200-$300. There were some really thin with scours going for $150. Just crazy and the crowd there was probably 4 times what the normal amount is.

A 50-75lb pigs were going for $200. . . . Needless to say, we did not bid on anything today. I think since the "meat shortages" people are getting I go raising their own now.

Panic buyers and those that think they will just jump into the meat animal market and get rich. Wish them all the best of luck but I do think in 6 months to a year, there are going to be a lot of real cheap goats, pigs and sheep for sale. Reminds my of the Llama market a few years ago.

no one will get rich off the goat market,,there is a little money to be made with a good return on your money, done right in my case a goal of 2o nanny goats and a Buck around $3000 this includes fencing and doing most if not all the work yourself,in 2 years I should have my investment back and some profit ,I am starting with young stock so I know just what I have ,,,,with that number of Nannys ( 20 ) it will take me a year to get to that many Nanny goats the first year sales go back into buying more goats

I hope for sales of between $12 and $18K in 2 years,,,,,,,,we will see how it goes,

How many acres are you fencing off in the long run for them? With your goats ages you probably won't start seeing kids until 2 1/2 - 3 year mark.

Hopefully wooded. They will have it cleared out in no time. . . They are like paranas eating all the time. We have shrub oak with multiple trunks. I have had 2 get their legs wedged and not able to get out on their own. 1 a kid another adult buck. Had to have help with him. He weighed close to 250lbs and on his back so he was no help. The baby ended up breaking her leg and had to get amputated it was such a bad break. But she lived and made beautiful kids even though she had to hobble around. After that I made certain there were no more trunks they could wedge their legs down in. Just wanted to share my experience. I always thought goats were sure footed, but they can be complete cluts!

Well how are you and your new little heard doing?

we are doing good,,so far my dogs are more afraid of them than the goats are of the dogs,,,,,except old Albert he is a Beagle,,,about all I can say is he did look at them other wise they might as well be a rock in the yard he pays them no mind,it is like they are not there
