I really like this guy. He has a lot of videos, but this one differentiates between Survival, Bushcraft, and Preparedness. If I look at the three I would consider myself more in the Preparedness mindset, and weaker on the Bushcraft side. I like the way he defines needs, and how everything fits together. Where do you fit?

I also like the "IDEA" of community, I simply can't see it being viable, more than a few days or few weeks. There are simply way too many useless humans. Now a community comprised of a pre-SHTF Military Instillation/Post, yes, I could see that working.

But Sourdough.....I like community post SHTF. Many hands make a job easier. That's how I'm wired.
I am not a bushcrafter. But I am a prepper. And I do want to survive.

The term "community" is common. What if you used the word "tribe?" Would that make it more doable?

No matter what you call it, you simply "CAN'T have what we currently have. In a post SHTF environment you need hard manual labor humans. And they need to physically do their share, plus the share of those who can't do long days of hard manual labor. Or you must dispose of those who reduce the probability of the others surviving.

If a small group was sent to a small community of 500 or 5,000 charged with the job of saving as many as possible. They would likely have to kill at least 20% first thing. Within a few weeks they would need to cull another 10% to 20%.

The reason this subject is timely and interesting for myself, is I very soon "MUST" choose where to move, this will be my last move over which I have some degree of control.

Guess I should have clarified. I agree - nothing like today. I assume (shame on me) that roughly 1/2 the population will perish leaving the other half to figure it out. Also, I would think much smaller comm/tribes maybe 50ish though difficult to put a number to any of what is in my head.

Those who have massive "skills" that would be needed post SHTF, they would not desire to be chained to a community the 47% were only skilled at eating and pooping, sniveling, and complaining.
I never said anything about community. Just that many of us are working very hard to be as ready as we can. While I agree the truth is hard. Hearing you're probably gonna die repeatedly isn't very encouraging.

I believe the term "community" is used in the original video. It is really more of a differentiation between a group, which he recommends and a Lone Wolf who thinks they can make it on their own. I would tend agree. There is safety in numbers.

Yes but, every community has to have a leader. Human communities, animal societies, all have a pecking order! I for one don't do the "share what you have and follow me" thing very well! I might end up going lone wolf, at least until I found people who were looking for a leader.

I don't think there is any question about that. There has to be structure, and organization. Somebody is going to be in charge. IMHO I can lead, and I can follow, but whoever I am following better be making sound decisions. I'm no Earthly good at blind allegiance, and I would have no hesitation about heading out on my own if I didn't like the direction the group was going.
