My husband has been talking to a guy who lives in NNJ for a bit about prepping and all that. We were supposed to meet up a couple of times but he always seems to be busy (alert no 1). I get that we're all busy with life but.... Anyway, outside of trading a few emails and phone calls (the hubby talks to him, I won't) he calls and leaves two, four min msgs last week after the State of the Union. This guy was hammered at the time. He was rambling that he would never hurt himself, how the gov't this and the gov't that and then went back to the "I'd never kill myself" thing (alert no 2).

Last night my hubby suggest they talk via that video msg thing on FB. I will NOT allow anyone to my home that I have not spoken to, in person, first. The video chat thing, to me, means that you're serious about meeting up (although the person chatting online could be different in person which is why I (we) require meeting in person. We have a lot at stake with our preps, life, privacy, etc....

Anyway, this guy said he wouldn't use FB or Skype or anything like that because the CIA is watching us (alert no 3)! I feel, at this point, that this guy is a waste of time and probably more of a danger then a benefit to bring into our circle. It really sounds as if he wants to start a modern day revolution and I told my hubby to just let it go.

To me, it's people like him (and that guy who kidnapped the 5 y/o) that make the rest of us hard working people look like we're insane and that ticks me off! It's bad enough that when we tell certain people that we are prepping (and I'm thankful for that or we would have been screwed during Sandy) they look at us sideways. I don't think someone like this guy should be called a prepper or any part of our circle.

What do you think about the media, and people, portraying us as crazy? Sorry for the early morning rant.

NP about the rant. You're right, stay far, far away. And yes, people like him and the guy that kidnapped the 5y.o. do make people who do prep look like idiots. Keep your business to yourself and those close to you and don't act like anything but a normal U.S. citizen.

alert #1 = unreliable
alert #2 = impulsive
alert #3 = paranoid (though your only paranoid if your wrong!)

I would rather have someone that is unprepared but able to learn and willing to work but dependable and LOYAL then someone with a years worth of preps and the traits you have listed.

As to the people representing preppers, welcome to sensationalist American journalism.

Think about who they present as...

Gun advocates
the occupy wall street movement
liberals
conservatives
constitutionalists
christians
etc.

Paranoid isn't an issue. This guy claims to be a prepper yet knows little about prepping (I should call myself a doctor because I know how to suture and give cpr....lol). I could deal with taking someone in who didn't display "the know it all attitude". To claim one thing and display another is sketchy in the least. I have no time or energy to put into worrying about someone I bring in. Know what I mean?

I know what you mean. I tried getting together with a small group of people about 30 miles from here and omg that was a damned clusterfuck. One couple was ready for anything because they had a case of mre's and a hand gun, they would get what they needed after things went bad.

Another guy claimed he was raising rabbits... in his bathroom. Was eating a rabbit everyday. How big is that bathroom?

Everyone kept asking where exactly I lived and getting pissed because I wouldn't tell them or draw them a map of how to get to our farm.

One woman was extolling the virtues of canning in the oven and the dishwasher. Another was claiming someone followed her to the meeting.

I stayed maybe 30 minutes and then drove to Wal Mart just in case one of those nitwits were actually following me to find out where I lived. Wow that sounded paranoid.

Anyhow, I don't blame you in the least. You have to trust your bologna radar.

Good move anorak!!
Their are some definite loons out their in the name of prepping. It gives their paranoia a focus unfortunately. My first test is to find out if they are an Alex Jones fan. (some of you may dislike me for this) And when I say fan I mean rabid fan. That's my first MAJOR red flag. Alex Jones and Info Wars may have some points, HOWEVER they rely on fear and paranoia as their sales point. A fan of the show usually has the demeanor to turn on you and be suspicious of everything and everyone. I am willing to train most but I do my best to weed out the wackos.

This is going to sound twisted but I like reading Alex Jones' stuff as it really gives me a good laugh. Oh and when he goes off his head looks like a volcano that's about to blow.

The fact that you don't know him anorak, makes me trust you all the more. And reading Alex Jones for comedy is great as well.

Why thank you kindly Roninsensei. I had to go look up Glenn Beck a few months ago after I kept hearing about him. Still not too impressed by what I've seen of him.

I agree the media especially the left leaning media is bound and determined to make us look like a bunch of paranoid freaks.

I am sure many of you have noticed that every now and then some reporter shows up wanting to interview someone from this site. Of course they all claim to have the purist of intentions at heart!.... bsflag

I did see an interview with one of the top CIA officials, and he said they do use Facebook as a means of tracking people. I am sure they aren't tracking all of us, but they have used it to go after people since people love to use it for telling the world where they will be at any given time.

lol!! As well you shouldn't be.. They're all media whores.. But that's my opinion. (Insert grain of salt)

I don't trust the media as far as I can throw them.

Anyone who claims to be good, have my best intention, yadda, yadda, yadda - please feel free to drink my punch as it's delightful and healthy. :D I've always been about re-establishing the government for the betterment of the people but, I'll be damned if I'm going to sacrifice my family for something that I want. I believe in having a system that works for ALL parties involved. Unfortunately, it hasn't been that way for longer than I've been alive.

I was just reading the top post and I think in these times everyone needs to remember your gut reaction is usually 99.9% correct. If you think someone is nuts..they probably are. I don't know how many people meet each other on here but I imagine it's much like online dating. Women need to remember as your husbands are introducing new people into your life that you are built with a natural antenna called intuition...use it and never doubt it...my 2 cents.

A throw back to Jim Jones?

I am prepping for me and my family, i don't tell anyone. I don't plan on bugging out " if needed " with any other preppers. My hands are full just worrying about my own. To be honest i don't trust too many people and in a shtf situation people will be out of their minds.

Rabbits in the bathroom......SIGH.
