People prep for many different reason. But in today's political, social, and technological environment we currently find ourselves in, is there anything in particular you worry about?
I worry about economic collapse, pandemics, and terrorists with radiological weapons and/or nerve gas. I also prep for hurricaines.
I feel that certain threats are valid, but not worth prepping for. Such threats are alien invasion, collision with an asteroid or a black hole, the idea that machines will become sentient and destroy humanity, all-out thermonuclear war, the Rapture, and the Yellowstone supervolcano.
Nukes for the most part without a good shelter and stored food we are all pretty screwed,,,,,,,,,,,,I can survive most anything else by fishing and hunting and stealth/avoiding the masses,,,it would be just one long camping trip.....
nukes would be the worry here too, but modern warheads are smaller than those in the cold war so unless we were in the area of the direct blast anything else is survivable, prevailing wind is away from this area.
pandemics, terrorists and naturally that idiot in the east mad-vlad..second option in my answer thanks to my politicians having that open door policy and not weeding them out in any way.
Prepping for any event that may come my way, I don't focus on any particular event. Most prevailing threats I face are volcanoes, earthquakes and wildland fires, luckily the Wife works for the USGS and WSU. Most of our preps are for the long stay, I'm prepped (though limited in scope) for unforeseen situation (such as zombies, nuclear war, mini ice age and destabilizing global pandemic) but no where to the extent I would love to be just that reality (finances) gets a vote. I'm guided by two rules 'I can't fully prepare for everything' and 'I have very little control'
I too just prep for any reasonable emergency. Not only can you not prep for super volcanoes, zombies, black holes, etc., but it's damned depressing to think about these things anyways! I try to cover water, shelter, food and security for at least a few weeks. If you can say you have that down then you are way ahead of 95% of the world.
Basically, as long as I have a continual supply of food and water, and we have shelter, anything else is pretty much gravy.... So, my preps focus first on those things, then on just maintaining a certain comfort level. Then, I worry about things that won't be easy to get post SHTF. If they store well, we try and stock them. If not, we try to find alternatives.
Most preppers aren't like on the TV show, where they try and get you to think they are single-minded on a certain cause. Basically, we prep the same reason our grandparents did, for anything that can cause a disruption. Disruptions suck.
tornadoes,wild/house fire, power outages short term to permanently, food and/or water shortage, loss of job, unexpected expenses, solar flare taking out the power grid, stock market and economy going belly up,pandemic, natural and man made alike, terrorist attacks of any kind, and anything "within reason" that i may of left out..
Heck ...i just prep because I like having options at my disposal and my own choosing's will decide my fate. Not what the Man thinks is best for me. He doesn't have that good of a track record to me.
