Good plan. We're staying on the farm for as long as we possibly can, they'll need dynamite to get me to go!
Do you have a stable, safe water supply? Something like a well, spring, stream, pond or whatever? If not, start getting your water stored at the house and other shelters you're building.
You're right about the little ones, making shitting and getting hard to do especially if you need to be quiet about it. Nothing worse than a little one throwing a hillbilly fit because their routine is out of whack. Staying put keeps things a little more normal for them.
Staying put also makes storing food easier and you can store more of it. Canned goods can be put in your other shelters until it's cold enough to freeze, then you got to bring them back home or make sure they don't get froze. It won't make the food go bad if it freezes in the can, but it's going to change the texture to something close to baby food when it thaws. If you have a way to store dehydrated foods in your other shelters that mice and other animals cannot break into, that might be the way to go since the cold won't affect them. Just make sure you have plenty of water there as well.
Get a few metal trash cans and put clothes, shoes, and bedding in them for the other shelters. Secure them up tight and your family will have what they need on hand if they didn't carry it. It sucks to wear the same underwear for more than a few days, a change is always nice. Make sure you have plenty of socks for everyone. Rummage sales, good will, second hand stores are all excellent sources to find what you need for this. You won't spend an arm and a leg and you can re-donate the kids clothes as they change sizes and buy more for them. Might also want to toss in a size or two bigger for the little ones as well, this way in the cold weather, you can layer them up like crazy to keep them warm.
This was just off the top of my head, I'll think of more as the night goes on. Hope it helps.
