Take one grassy field, 1/2 dozen children, 3 small dogs, a pinch of a brook and some pebbles. Mix the children and dogs well together and put them in the field, stirring constantly. Pour the brook over the pebbles. Sprinkle the field with flowers, spread over all a deep blue sky and bake in a hot sun. When brown, remove and set away to cool in a bath tub of bubbles.

Some recipes one just has to share even if they are not made in the kitchen.

If only life was that simple. . . now days it seems kids want all the electronic things. My kids are grown and I am now waiting on grandkids, but I want mine to be able to appreciate the outdoors and critters. I hear from co-worker about how theirs like to play, is it Xbox these days? Whatever happened to going to the park, catching snakes, and fishing? I thought that was what life was about as a kid. I have already warned my kids, I am taking my grandkids into the garden and pastures. . .

Going down to the creek to fish, flying kites, riding my bicycle on trails through the woods, shooting at scurrying lizards (and missing) with my BB Gun - all these things I did on my own growing up. Hell, just walking in the woods with the dog - I went every chance I got. Hunting crawdads in the creek was an adventure. I'd show up at suppertime and my mom would not even ask where I'd been. Staying inside was torture.

how did we survive without xbox and other electronis sh...? think we had imagination so much our parents nearly got a nervous breakdown,we didn't have a summer place so my dad sent me and my brother for a6week summer camp,we still remember nearly everything we did there, every path, where to fish etc...the first shy kiss, anyone know how to build a time machine?? pls tell

Didn't you see the Doritos commercial of the kid with the time machine! Really cute. . .

Nowadays it's not safe to let your kids out unsupervised! I would be gone from sunup to sundown most summer days. Walking on railroad tracks was an adventure, and I think we did just fine without cell phones!

Yes it was. . . my best friend growing up was Darren and he loved them! We would turn over all kinds of rocks looking for them and also looked thru our parents mulch piles looking for garter snakes.

I like them with a bit of Salt and Pepper... Just kidding...

Wish kids were that easy to manage. Kids nowadays do have a mind of their own.

going swimming at a lake 1/4 mile from the house..camp outs there as well..in which i walked to quiet often..bb guns bicycles go-carts.neighbourhood hide n seek.tonka toys made of metal.we have cousins from arkansaw that'd come visit in the summer.we'd pick up grass snakes n toss um onto our cousins..old brothers shooting off fire crackers in field behind us and setting it on fire during the summer..building club/tree houses in which we got old lumber from fallen houses.15 cent ice cream cones

I don't have any kids, and don't see any in my future, but I still go out into the woods and run around sometimes, and with a BB gun too! Times are different now, I'm not one to give advice here, but I would like to hear some answers, just in case, to how you get kids outdoors. I know we must prepare children to enter the world we live in, so those electronics things are useful.

I think when you get the kids outside they tend to enjoy it, my kid craves my time and loves that I'm wild at heart. If all else fails you can always cut the power in your house and that will get them moving...if only to find the fuse box. Kids do need to be pluged into the modern world but it can also make them dumb, fat and lazy so as parents we have a duty to get them moving and unpluged.

Unless forced to do so , many kids will not even look up from their hand-held device when spoken to.............. and some are TOTALLY unaware of anything in their immediate surroundings.

My favorite was at a nice Japanese steakhouse I noticed a young couple, prob 18yrs, dressed very nice like they were on a first date or something. They were both on their smart phones the entire meal and didn't talk hardly at all! I actually saw on TV several clips of how oblivious people are when on their phones and walking into things. There were several post collisions, a stop sign and my favorite was a dip in the fountain.
