Route Selection, Ambushes & VCP’s

Not sure where I should have put this but it involves getting the hell out of Dodge and its transportation so I put it here.....

Selecting good routes is extremely important part of your security planning especially in hostile areas or in times of civil unrest. In theory the best routes should allow the vehicles to travel at the maximum legal speed limit with as little congestion and as few stops as possible but in reality this can be a difficult thing to achieve.

in the UK post SHTF we can forget about motorways and major highways, TPTB(if they still exist) have plans to ban any civilian traffic from such roads, that's not just cars and trucks, but bicycles and walkers too.these roads will be designated for military and emergency vehicles only and roadblocks will be in place and any "offenders" will be arrested. these plans were formulated way back in the 80s and to my knowledge they have never been cancelled. anyone bugging out had better find alternative routes.

well I am staying put,my furthest trip out will be 60 miles on a scavenger run and that is a big maybe,I stay within my 20 mile radius of home base and it will be hard to waylay me I know all the roads and trails around here,,,most of the time I will be within 3 miles of home base

same here, except my scavenger run wont be any further than a 10 mile radius.

within 20 miles I have 2 hardware store a couple auto parts stores 2 grocery and Wally world and a sporting goods store,,,,with a nuclear attack these will all be cleaned out within hours,and I will be holed up for about a month

I have small villages around me, the first 4 miles away, one at 6 miles and one at 10, I will be concentrating on the village stores .

There are a lot of narrow, high mountain cuts in the road bed in this area. ;->
