Secord?

Ben
??

Way back in my grade school days I read/was taught, about three ships of pilgrims arriving here in the early days. The name of one of them is one on the tip of my tongue, and a ship with some folks I’m related to.

EDIT: https://namediscoveries.com/surnames/secord
Not that I’m aware of, but wouldn’t surprise me. I’ll be looking into it again soon.

Was it the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria? I gotta go look now.

Those are the three ‘sister’ ships... Santa Maria.

I need to re-check though. That side of the family I don’t see often anymore.

EDIT: ‘that side’ of the family are the record keepers, after doing a lot of research. Ties to Abe Lincoln were even found. A new generation of the family is carrying the torch… cousin Pam I see once a year, if lucky.

Better keep checking, OldSchool. I doubt there were any pilgrims on the Nina, Pinta, or the Santa Maria.

I miss Rush. No one will ever replace him.
Me too and you're right. 75% of my job was driving and I always enjoyed listening to him.

He used to say that when people asked him why he was so popular, he would quote Shakespeare, "Brevity is the soul of wit" and that is VERY true! KEEP IT BRIEF AND TO THE POINT! When someone gabs, gabs, gabs, they lose people's interest.

On today’s news I watched - a question was posed to anchors about the date the Mayflower arrived. They answered 1492.

There’s some irony…

Anyway, there’s no documentation about how I could be related to any of the pilgrims. Lincoln, on the other hand, is documented and verifiable. FWIW.

On the note of Thanksgiving…. I had great one with family that’s here in town. And, because on my interest in family history - there’s gonna be a family reunion with some relatives that are not in town, with a focus on our family history.

That should tell you all you need to know about those anchors. The 1492 ships were manned by Christopher Columbus, and they were Spanish. They landed in what is now the Bahamas.

The Mayflower, which set sail from England departed in 1620. They landed in Cape Cod Massachusetts. That was the first Pilgrim colony in the New World. There was a second ship called the Fortune, that sailed a year later in 1621. It only had 35 passengers, and did not stay long.

Yep, I thought they are idiots. But then I haven’t appeared to be overly intelligent in this thread. :(

Well Thanksgiving was interesting. After going on about how unhappy he was about the election, my father in law realized he and his wife were the only ones that were unhappy, including the teenagers. He was shocked. How did he not know all these years what his family thinks? I suppose he didn't get my joke last Thanksgiving that I don't own "A" gun. Lol

Sounds like he needs to turn off his television.
