Okay, we had lots of rain last night (over 5 inches) I put one end of a water hose into the pool cover which has about 12 inches of water. The water has to go up about 15 inches then straight down. I have the majority of the hose on the overhang for gravity. I am using the mouth method to get the suction started, but it won't keep pressure. I'm guessing I have mispositioned the hose . The hose is probably 15 to 20 feet long. I have longer ones if needed. I've done it before with this hose, but forget how I positioned the hose. Thanks guys

Not to State the obvious but siphoning is a simple process. Make sure the end of your hose is lower that the water your trying to drain. And that your hose doesn't have any holes or leaks. I'd suggest that you only put enough hose to reach the lowest point of what your trying to drain, and leave the excess hose stretched out on the ground. It should work fine.

That's how I do it Arctic, but it's obviously I didn't take the Monica Lewinsky school.
I finally have a small stream coming out which is better than nothing

You can also take the whole hose and submerge it into the pool, making sure it is completely full of water and no air. Seal one end with your thumb and move it below the level of the pool before releasing your thumb. That just keeps you from putting a dirty hose in your mouth. Or you could call monika....

Last year, I had an entire mouth full of ants and mud. I always rinse the hose prior to use now

When I first started making wine I used a small clear hose and my mouth to start the suction when siphoning from one container to another. I figured it would be more sanitary to use the siphon pump pretty quickly. Although, with the old way you got to sample each batch.....

After all these years, I finally stuck a water hose to the end of the siphoning hose. Filled it with water and then when I turned it off the water started poring out of the siphoning hose. All these years and I was doing it the hard way. Now I know.

I hope I’m never too old to learn new ways to do things! There is always a better way to skin a cat.....

And if you don't know something...you can always GOOGLE your way out of it.

Seriously, what did we do before google! AI scares the hell out of me, yet I couldn’t imagine not having this wonderful resource for info on just about anything you could imagine.

A world without GOOGLE is like a world without H20...thats oxygen right?

I grew up with an old set of encyclopedia brittanica. It was already outdated by the time I came around, (baby of 5 kids),but was better than nothing.

Now they're used as doorstops and seat boosters. I kid I kid.
