I watched a soccer game the other day for the first time in decades. I don't particularly care for sports, but I used to play soccer, and I appreciate it for it's non-stop action and VAST pool of talent. It said to be the biggest game internationally, soI want to start watching it regularly.... The thing is... I don't remember ANYTHING about it!

I remember that you can't touch it unless you're the goalie and that you need to score goals to win. Sad shame, I know... Still, I find that game exciting. Even more so than hockey(Which I've watched a bit, but not enough to know much about it).

What are the good leagues to watch in America? Not necessarily American teams, but leagues that come on our TV channels?

My wife thought I was silly when I told her that, because I only like shooting sports and MotoGP, but hey.... It's better than watching a bunch of guys in tights wrestling each other over a pigskin!

;)..................... Football has taken a turn for the worse , much like everything else in this country. Instead of wasting my Sunday watching football , I now get some prepping work done. Unless ,of course ,the Saints are playing........................................................... Soccer IS football to the rest of the world.

Hi the best leagues in the world are English Premier league, Spanish La Liga and German Bundesliga. I don't know what you will get on your tv out there although you will see MLS. You do get teams coming to your country for pre season so always worth a look out. Hope that helps a little, Steve

That definitely helps. Thanks Steve!

'though I think the europeans will not have great succes in the games,it's going to be to hot and to humid, but we'll know after the last game

Yes, sorry the World Cup. I never mentioned this as, in this house we are slightly football mad and it's kind of taken that this will be on the TV all the time ha ha. My poor wife! Both my daughter and son have played for the local team and my son was Captain and top goal scorer season before last. If nothing else they should be fit with all the running around

World Cup!! I have a friend that is going to Brazil to see the Cup. I'll definitely be watching that. Not sure who I think will win, but I'll have to get a little more educated first. Hopefully this Soccer subforum will come to life during the WC, though!

If it helps I will say it is between Germany, Spain and Brazil. However that is only my opinion. Looking at the teams I think these 3 are the most likely.

guys don't forget Uruguay, they are not bad,the finals might be between them and Germany

Best advice..... get someone to wake you up when they blow the final whistle!!!
Can't get my head around being excited when the score is 0-0.

Personally I don't think German will benin the final. I'm thinking Brazil (hopefully they play a bit better than right now) Argentina and Spain. Everyone else won't be used to playing in those conditions. My 2 cents on that.

Fair point, but if you can get the goals in the first half then make your changes at half time and ' park the bus' it's all about tactics.

the one thing that annoy me is the tendency for those latin boys to fall, you nudge them and oh my god how they roll and scream in agony, Hollywood can't do it better

it's going to be interesting to watch England-Italy tonite and watch how the referees working...not so good sofar

The official World Cup thread has been started!!

I belive it has :D ,my only wish is that every game played would be judged fairly, players would play it fair,it would be entertaining

No, I meant that literally.... I started a World Cup thread!

I hear wat you're saying, though. I have seen some pretty bad calls and the Mexico game had me wondering if the Japanese ref was being paid by Cameroon. I hope that's not the case, but one never knows. When t here's that much money flowing, someone could easily get tempted. The players are sometimes a little bit too dramatic with things, but I can imagine emotions are high and some guys play a little harder than usual. I thought the guys from Chile & Australia were going NUTS last night with some of the tripping. Meh.... Maybe I'm wrong. This is after all, the first World Cup I've ever watched.

some of them play hard, really hard, that's why the referees must be good,no they must be excellent.
and yes you started a world cup thread :)
thanks for that my friend
