Can’t wait to see this giant steel can actually fly! Hope it works

This thing is a giant and weighs 210 tons. Today it is just supposed to fly up and come back for a landing, testing its control ability

Currently watching the live stream from LabPadre with their new Starlink internet service. It arrived a few hours ago and works great just setting the dish on the deck. First time I've ever been able to watch live streams at 4k! Excited the first thing I get to do with their internet is watch their launch!

Grass venting just started. Looks like we get to see the fuse lit today :)

Definitely anticlimactic.... t minus 1.3 seconds and aborted by an automatic shut down. Don’t know when the next attempt will be yet

I saw Wednesday had perfect weather chances for a go.

T minus 18 minutes to launch

The Abort yesterday was likely a "Range Violation" because of a small plane flying where it wasn't supposed to.

Maneuvers successful.
Made it back down to the landing zone in the correct position and hit the center of the landing zone, but came down too hard. Header tank pressure was low and the engine didn't get enough fuel.

Mission objectives were met. Getting it back intact would have been a bonus:

This suborbital flight is designed to test a number of objectives, from how the vehicle's three Raptor engines perform to the overall aerodynamic entry capabilities of the vehicle (including its body flaps) to how the vehicle manages propellant transition.
SN8 will also attempt to perform a landing flip maneuver, which would be a first for a vehicle of this size.
With a test such as this, success is not measured by completion of specific objectives but rather how much we can learn, which will inform and improve the probability of success in the future as SpaceX rapidly advances development of Starship.

It was definitely a heck of a fireworks display! This thing was 160’ tall and 30’ diameter, so amazing it can fly at all. Elon gave it a 30% chance of flying and landing today, but got the test flight data they were looking for. He has several more of them to test still. Their falcon 9 rockets lost quite a few before they finally got them to where they were today.

blew up on landing .
good job nobody was on board, would be like Apollo all over again.

Found a video showing the whole launch, flight and the flip back up for the landing. Everything was flawless until the flip, they said the head pressure was low, and it didn’t quite make it back up vertical for the landing. Would have been cool to see this one in person.

Landing in one piece would have been a bonus, it wasn't one of the objectives. 100% of mission objectives were accomplished. Musk had said he only expected to achieve 1/3 of the objectives so the mission was an outstanding success far beyond anyone's expectations.
