I went cat fishing using great value canned luncheon meat. (Spam)
Works great and the fish hit on it
But, it does not stay on the hook very well
Soooooooooo
I made spam pop cycles
Cut the meat up into large cubes inserted a hook then froze it
Perfect!!!!

Thank God for your story. When I clicked on this post I was expecting to see someone eating spam on a stick. Even the thought grossed me out.

You don't have to put it on a stick 😛 :D:cool::ghostly::eek:

With fish baskets I use friskies, any cat or dog food in a small can. Punch a few holes in the can then toss the whole thing into the basket as bait. Fish/turtles can't get the bait out of the can so it lasts longer. I use the same bait when live trapping raccoons/varmits.

Never tried freezing bait. How long before it thaws? Maybe a hard sear in a hot frying pan would work. Help the bait hold together longer?

If I cook it, it's not gonna make it to a hook, it's supper. Uncooked, it's a snack :)
