By the time the sun comes up, I've been out of bed for well over an hour

Ruined by many years of 4 am alarm clocks, and a cat that goes off at 5:30 am with no snooze button

I love Vermont, it is so beautiful. Will be visiting Southern VT- Manchester to be exact in the coming months.

The Manchester area is beautiful country, and the town is easily accessible via US Rte 7. Seems to have a well organized service industry to take advantage of that.

Yes, it is nice.
I'm with you. I cut the cord.
If I sleep too late, I hear the sleep-mate (sound machine) turn off when the timer runs out at 9:20am.
I'm usually up between 8:30 and 9:00am.
I got up early for a while right after I retired and looked around at a silent house and thought: "for what?ain't even nuthin' on TV".
I'd end up back in bed anyway.
