Rather than a tin, I like those little tupperware-like containers that have the little clamps on them, that seal completely tight. That way, they are perfectly waterproof too.
 
just like gazrok.id replace the tin with a waterproof plastic container with a lid that snaps and locks into place..plus a tin will rust where plastic dont rust.and rust can ruien what ever is in it..
 
im thinking along the lines of the one on the far left.the one labeled 1..but smaller in size..this smallest one, is
8 1/2 cups (2 L)
2 1/4"H x 7 3/8"W x 11"L (6 x 19 x 28 cm

This is a fine example of the things you should have in a small container for emergencies, in case you can't get your hands on anything else.
 
I like the kind that actually have a little clasp that comes up on either side (and has a little gasket, making it water-proof, like a beach container). If you find my GHB pics on here, like I have for my first aid kit. I'll have to dig up the pic.
