I suppose, if I were running any country in Europe right now, it would be job 1 to have a plan in place. Still, I just find it hard to believe Russia would start invading countries that were never even former Soviet Union satellite countries. I mean, that would be instant world war 3, I'm surprised there hasn't been more NATO response to Crimea and Ukraine.

Sweden should be concerned.

Finland was invaded by Russia early in WWII. There was a Finnish farmer and hunter who took offense to this, and took it upon himself to go into the boonies and kill over 520 Russian soldiers with his simple, bolt action rifle (with no scope).

I think Russia has always had its sights set on Scandinavia because of the sea ports and better access to Atlantic coastlines.

If they invade Sweden, I'll bet that the fact that they're facing the proud descendants of Viking berserkers will become very obvious.

had to come back to tell you a little story of a land,not so different from mine...this land had evaded WW1 & WW2,by "declaring neutrality" and had thus
a long period of peace.
after WW2 this peaceful land built a srtong navy,air force and army,had bases along its border,just to be able to fend off the plague from east.
then we come to present day,where a few goverments ago,they decided in Stockholm;we no longer need an army,we have finally peace in Europe and putin is
a good peaceful guy you can trust...soon this country had no standing army,no conscript army,they had some navy and air force.

then came the day those in power realized that putin is a POS and you can't trust him and his croonies...and NOW this country is desperately
building back everything it once had,once again calling young men and women to serve as conscripts...but building back that you had but lost
takes time and a lot more money,more that they spent annually on their armed forces before they started to belive utopia was here..so the buffer
between Stockholm/Sweden and St Petersburg/russia is.................(fill in the blank place)...once again...once again..and trust me,when I say it;
it PISSES ME OFF...

I'm sorry that Sweden is in this situation.

I've never been to Sweden, but your country has a reputation (in the U.S., among my social circle) of being progressive, enlightened, and tolerant of differences. It has a reputation of being a paradise with regards to education, poverty, healthcare, infant mortality, and so on.

I can't help but wonder what kind of social progress has been made with the money that was spared by cutting back on the milutary...or did this money end up in the pockets of corrupt politicians...like it would have in the U.S.?

well,my friend I live in that country which is the buffer between Sweden and russia,they prolly invested those money in something less useful,
one big issue for Sweden is time,do they have time to rebuild before the storm or not??

I've had the pleasure of training with some Swedes,we had a platoon of MP's here at the mil.refreshner I took part in twoo weeks ago,yes they
are motivated,good equipment,they are young and fit,just don't know if they have enough manpower,that's something that plague from east has
in abundance

I'm not trying to be a doomsayer (and, perhaps, portray myself as an insensitive *******), but do you guys worry about Putin using nukes?

I could never see the Russians nuking Finland or Sweden for two reasons, the first is both countries are tunnel rats both places are riddled with Sub Terr places forces can hide but more importantly much of Finland is so close to large Russian cities if they used nukes they would do as much harm to themselves as the Scandinavians. if they nuke Norway then we will nuke them because Norway is a full on NATO member.
