This might be common onowledge but to me it begs a question. I'm abit of a brown thumb too.

Every year I have a few volunteer taters come up in the spring. I let them grow and then harvest later.

It got me to wondering why not plant my taters in the fall and not plant any in the spring. I'm in the north I think zone 4

If they hard freeze they turn to mush.

Plant them below the frost line.
