I was just wondering how fast the prepping movement is growing, I see new members here everyday'ish, It would be good if Clyde could do a % of growth on the site chart or something, If you have time that is.

I've wondered that myself. Like some, I also belong to American Prepper Network and the state prepper site. As far as city I live in, the activity is pretty small. I actually find it funny because in April 1979, the city had one of the worst tornado's in U.S. history, still ranks within the top 10, and that is right up there with Joplin, Mo. Tuscalosa Al. and Moore Ok. I know of only my MAG and one other MAG in the city that are organized, our sizes are pretty small, but know that sporadic interest is driven by how people view prepping. From what I've read on this website, I think most of us agree we are looking at the bigger picture events that can be retooled to support localized events such as a natural disaster or induustrial event.

Saturday, we stopped into our pool company, the city just went into Stage 5 Emergency Drought plan. Which means no filling the pool, we are having a very large water container placed in the backyard that will be filled by our rain gutters, that we will use to fill the pool. What is most interesting is the fact that when the city had the tornado, the city was forced to shut off all the water mains, my pool owners wife (a very dear friend) said that they had neighbor and family coming over to use the water (note: this would be another example of how municipalities would not provide services) and a big reason why we are bugging out in a real event. Yes and as my wife pointed out, the water container can be moved to our BOL, should we choose to move it there after the drought or if we sell the home. Its over 2000 gallons, so will be a great reserve.

strange how people tend take for granted that water will flow I just open the tap, electricity will flow,I just turn the switch, even here in Finland without any tornadoes wich would do havoc to any system, and yet finding someone that preps, well I will propably win at the lottery before that happens,we used to have in our buildingcode a rule that if you build a samll hause for you,you must have a fireplace in it,an what abt now? no need for such things, powercomp will provide you with a steady supply of warmth and electricity,really... a couple of winters ago we had so much snow it did bend trees over the powerlines, well before they could fix the problems,no heating no electricity, citys where mostly okay but in the country only those houses with a fireplace had heating and a possibility to make food

by the way, I try to write proper english, but I know that I sometimes mix expressions from english-english and american-english,so, sorry for that

Growth though, has to also be quantified with it being somewhat of a fad for many too. It waxes and wanes. It's not just something to do, it's a bit of a lifestyle change and attitude change. For me, it's more about long term sustainability vs. stockpiling. The trick is balancing that while still working a city job full time (and while the wife is doing so too).

Work often get's in the way of prepping but we need that money for the prepping...It could drive me mad...Wish I could get payed to prep, For me it's sustainability and stock pile for 3 months basic rations.

I might have a remote chance to understand spoken scottish, written, not a snowballs chance in... ;)

I think a lot of people in the U.S. have an vague uneasy feeling of impending doom. Nobody know exactly what shape it will take, but it tends to wake people out of their complacency. Things like the frantic hoarding of 22 ammunition, food prices rising, gas prices rising, health insurance cancellations and skyrocketing premiums, etc. get people's attention. Prepping is the seen as a much more serious thing now.

It's crazy that some are so plugged in to the system they just don't see/feel it coming. I feel that I'm running out of time and am working hard to get my preps in place.

without a doubt, the harder things get the less paranoid/crazy we all look to the vast majority. All I know for sure, it's taken me a lot of trial and error and time to learn alot of the things Ive done. I feel sorry for those that wait until the last minute to start prepping.

I'm seriously considering doing some gas hoarding (and using treatment to prolong it, etc.). With the way that has been rising lately. I already kind of had the idea, and how, but it is rising in priority. Just a lot of cost.

yeah it is on the rise..the most we normally see the gas prices are from $3.25 at it's lowest,to $3.39 at its highest.now its from $3.43 to $3.59..but yet i think that had some to do with easter weekend thoe

Did you mean Gas for car or Gas for house????Not sure about the cost of power in the USA but in the UK most pay around £150/£200 a month on power. For petrol I'm around £60 a week but I don't go very far.

we're still lucky with that,I pay around 110 euros for electricity every 3 months, heating included in the rent gas here in Finland goes for aprox 1,7 euros/liter

you fail to realize,we love confusion in these here parts..lol :) especially when it happens to the other person lol
Hey I might not be English but I'm closer than you, So I figure I should get the last say on the English spoken word....but then again I'm on an American site so you could tell me to #@#@ off to an English site...LOL

would it be that prize here in Finland, but no,cars and car owners are such a good cash-cows,lots of diff taxes, once asked a guy trying to be elected to our gov. what would you do if everybody stopped drinkin, smoking and driving private cars??? where would you take that money from, strang,he couldn't give me ant answer

Difference is, you don't likely have to drive 50 miles to get to work in Europe, hehe. In fact, if you did, you could up in another country.... Costs me about $120 for gas each week.

well if you live in the country here in Fin,you must have a car,you might have your foodstore at a distance of 50km/35miles,as I live in city,I use publictransport or my brother when shopping for food once a week

boy,you can get confused by all regulations where to drive and not
