The state of Washington and WDOT

Most know I live in a remote area that requires us to fend for our self's including keeping the road clear and safe for the family to travel on, we take care of a 12 mile stretch of the road the county and state never keeps clear of snow or debris, we been doing for 40 years. Two years ago WDOT (Washington department of transportation) informed us not to grade the bridge (concerns about the weight) I told them the bridge handled over 40 tons log trucks, the bridge is rated 100 tons and it sure as hell will handle a 21 ton grader to no avail, I was ordered to stop, we mounted a plow on the 4x4 truck and used that on the bridge, no one said anything until now.

People that live just over the 12 of road we take care of called WDOT wanting to know why they were keeping a road clear that no one lives on and not their road, WDOT informed the complaining party they are not the one's doing the work. The other day my boys were ordered to stop pushing the snow off the road, I called WDOT yesterday and they informed me they are the only one's that can maintain state roads, I told him in over 40 years I haven't seen a g'damn fxxken state... click, they hung up

Told the kids to stay out of it, I will grade the road. It's that kind of ******** that burns my ass

I live quite a ways off a long Forest Service road. The FS keeps the gate locked to block public access to this area. I lease a couple miles of road from the FS to access our ranch and we're the only ones with a key to the gate. Part of our lease agreement with the forest service is that I maintain the entire road. Which includes gravel, brush cutting and snow plowing, which runs over 10k per year. If the forest service was to maintain this road then they'd open it to the public. I like things the way they are. I think I have about 90 years on my lease.

The state takes care of the road except for 2 1/8 miles from west of the bridge, we keep the road open from east from the bridge for 12 miles (the dangerous section of the road) It doesn't cost the state or county a damn dime, we even replace the reflectors when the rock slides take them out.

The state may have a right to say what goes on with the road but I have a right to keep my family safe as much as possible as I can. I would like to know about the one's that complained, the first house is 6 miles west of the bridge, they would have to drive to the bridge to know anything was done, nothing makes sense to me.

Send the state DOT a certified letter stating that you will sue for any damages or injuries if any of your family or friends are injured due to road conditions and their desire to enforce their demands that you stop clearing the road. Bet they will decide to work out an agreement where you do not hold them liable for injury or loss due to your road clearing and you will intern not hold them liable to keep the road cleared. Worth a try.

Why on earth would anyone complain about the road being maintained in the first place?!! Crazy! You're right, doesn't make any sense!!

most likely this was not so much reported but was caused by someone who lives on a different road,,,pissed that their road was not clear called in to see why that one was plowed and their road was not,,,,,and now DOT is on Mavs butt to make him stop because he is making them look bad

it is a pissy way to handle this but we are talking about DOT,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and I know how piss poor DOT can be,,,,they aren't much good here where I live either

"When I lived in Portland, the power went out to much of the city in a bad ice storm. The news said it would be days before PGE could restore power . When ours went out, I called and reported kids using the downed line to play jump rope. They had it fixed in less than two hours.
