I've recently discovered a series of videos done by a man that uses his computer skills to track down scammers. I was somewhat aware of them, I get all the emails from the nigerian princes and fed ex desperately trying to deliver a cashier's check; I basically ignore them all. But watching these videos makes me realize just what a huge, profitable business it is, and how cruel. These lowlifes specialize in attacking old people and it makes me sick. The scam busters have even gathered evidence and sent it to the authorities, but the Indian government won't do anything about the huge call centers. Just watching the videos makes me want to shoot them all. I really like how the scam buster guys can get in and mess with the scammers, but more needs to be done.
And as a side effect, I've been doubling down on my own internet security, and I'm even going through all the steps to remove my information from all the nasty sites like spokeo and nuwber, but that's a topic for another thread.

Guard your parents and older relatives like a hawk!
These scammers will never go away.
I used to get in 'trouble' weekly but have finally trained my MIL that sometimes being an AH is perfectly acceptable at times.
She is getting much better at asking them for her personal info first to verify who is calling.
It stops them dead in their tracks.
We have a few threads about it on here. My favorite:

I love scammers! they entertain me to no end!
I had this "Daughter of a Rowandan senator" begging me to launder 10,000 dollars for her to get her out of a refugee camp. I reeled this scumbag in like a big, fat catfish! Anyway, she was sending me all kinds of "suggestive insinuations" about what "ELSE" might happen when "she" got to the USA, and sent me a cute picture. I played my line out a bit more and got her to send me some "BETTER" pictures, then I dropped the nuke on her and told her that I was a Templar in the monastery of Void and we were forbidden to touch actual money because it was unclean, but her pictures would be easing the "frustrations" of my celibate bretherin for years and offered her twenty dollars for more.

I've never had anything from Nigeria again.

My outdated car warranty.
I normally tell them my warranty was out before they were born and hang up, but this idiot from India hit me in a particularly sadistic mood.
I told him I had a customized Japanese SUV called a Hitachi Yasimoto cruiser and very few were imported due to the cost by I think I said Land Rover or Cadillac, and I'd love an extended warranty. he kept asking me what it looked like, what year as he couldn't find it. I kept saying it was blue and looked like a 1974 Bronco, motor size, etc... I finally told him if he couldn't find such a rare and expensive vehicle, he probably couldn't insure it either and hung up.

He's never called back either.

Then there was the one selling time shares.
I asked her how large her breasts were.
barely phased her!
then I asked what color her panties were and if she ever "self serviced" to be delicate, while she was on the phone with a client, and a few even lewder comments, but she was determined! and I finally told her if she'd have phone *** with me she could send me a full brochure. and if she sent a picture for me to look at, I'd take it.

Never heard from them again either!

Why yes, I AM a sick, twisted and evil old man!

I just read the congress critters are trying to pass a bill to stop the car warranty scammers.
Good luck with that.
If it was 'fixable' it would have been fixed years ago.
News Flash: Anyone in India will always be able to call your phone.:(
