I have always loved geometry! I also love the history of things like geometry. There are so many wonderful stories about ancient society mathematicians and geometry.

One story I learned in my elementary Montessori training was about how 360 degrees was figured out. I don't have my geometry lesson notebook in front of me, so I can not name names, etc. Some priest went up into a truncated tower and every night he made a mark on the top in line with a particular star. in 360 days, he was back to his original mark. 360 degrees
I haven't seen my copy of this book in quite a while, but originally, there were few tools to use for geometry.

Sumer was the first civilization that had schools to teach math, history and writing. They used the 360 degrees in a circle. They used a combination of lunar and solar calendars.
They had libraries and courts of law. They even had the first wheels in history, dams, managed irrigation and water pumps. In school we joked that because they were the first to record beer and wine recipes they probably invented pizza too.
