This little alligator snapping turtle was trying to cross our huge parking lot at work . In this southern heat he would be cooked in a short distance . I put him back in the grass near our retention pond . He will probably try it again . Alligator snappers are rare here in Tennessee but regular snapping turtles are very common .

Those things can live for hundreds of years . If only people could discover their secret of longevity . Instead government's lab people concocted a die off formula " covid vaccine "and convinced people to get it injected into their bodies . Well at least the pure bloods can expect a lesser populated planet to enjoy .

I once saw a small one (larger than that though) scooting across the road and knew it had to be an alligator snapping turtle the way it was running. I stopped the car and got it into a box and showed it to everyone (surprised me how many people had never seen one). I would put a stick near it and let it snap it in two to show people why you don't mess with them unless you know you are doing. Then I let it go.

We have them around here now and again.

I once shot a HUGE alligator snapping turtle in the head with a 22 and hauled it into the john boat I was in. But it was only knocked out and it came back to life in the boat, and man was it pissed! Everything after that is just a blur in my memory due to my state of mind, but if I recall correctly I got it out of the boat with the paddle.

I've fried several snapping turtles . Mostly caught while trout lining for catfish . The neck and legs are good . That's about the only parts I use from them .
