My name's Sofie Möller and I work at a tv-productioncompany in Stockholm, Sweden, called Titan Television. We are producing a series of documentaries about people that live in a way that's maybe seen as a bit unconventional in the common eye. That can for example mean people with extreme looks, uncommon conditions/allergies, odd interests etc.

In Sweden we don't have a lot of preppers which makes it unusual for our viewers, mostly because we haven't had natural disasters. We live in a quite protected part of the world but of course there are more dangerous places to live in, such as Asia with the threat of tsunamis and LA of earthquakes. I am looking for a prepper somewhere in the world that want to maybe participate in one episode of the documentary and to tell me more about their life as a prepper and how it works.

Sofie you need to do some research, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark have large communities of preppers, they even have their own forums. Admittedly there are more preppers, survivalists, off gridders and home steaders in the UK than in Scandinavia, and by far many more in the US, but there are plenty in your part of the world.

Though like us they probably will not speak with the media in any form.

Isnt it Malmo thats become a no go area at night for young swedes because of the insanity of their government, and I also believe their once wealthy well funded social welfare system is now close to bankruptcy because they allowed hundreds of thousands of migrants to move it.

If I have my figures correct this is the eleventh attempt by MSM media, news and TV companies this year on assorted forums who want to do stuff on preppers, and they still do not get the simple fact that with the media record on dealing with preppers NO ONE TRUSTS THEM.

What serious and commited prepper would throw away years of work, opsec and preps for 15 minutes of fame on TV being ridiculed and humilated.

Do we have any prepper Kardashians?

I will put the next in swedish; vet inte i vilken värld du lever,men ni i Sverige har tjabbat bort er så det stinker,så tro nu int för tusan att nån här från detta forum vill ses på nåt tv program,vi alla vet hur det ändå blir editerat så att tittar siffrorna blir högsta möjliga,prepparna blir porträrat som galenpannor och allt skulle vara frid och fröjd om vi skulle leva i samma skitbubbla som ni.
spring faktiskt till Malmö och filma där hur bilar brinner mer eller mindre varje natt,hur svenskor blir våldtagna på färjorna av invandrare...

But, by and large, preppers tend to not exactly advertise.....because, of course, then neighbors know right who to hit up in case of a catastrophe....

Because of all the universal bad press we have had from the media in the last 25 years.

this seems to be more and more frequent that they appear here and wanna make a name of them self, take part in this kind of activity
and you might aswell put a huge poster on your door listing all your preps you have inside.

True, but this kind of angry paranoid response doesn't exactly make us media friendly either, hehe... Not that that is any kind of a goal, but still.

I'm more into hyping the self-sufficiency angle. I've got (what I think) are great plans, just that finances and time make them slow to implement. Still, I'm further on some things, behind on others. All just depends on what comes down the pike.

These new boarders (assuming the start in Nov), should allow me to put up some additional fencing around the property, and start working on the pool deck and mancave projects.

Prepper kardashians, just think of the possibilities there. Saturday night live could take is idea and run with it.

I think in large most of us just hasn't seen any reason to trust the media. I believe we all have seen the manipulation the media have injected into public dialog, look no further how gun owners are treated in the press

The original post highlights the main issue with Journos and media types they simply dont do any research, eg there are loads of preppers, survivalists, off gridders and homesteaders in Sweden hell much of the country away from the cities is off grid, but its just easier to go and find easy going Americans or keen to help Brits to make a show. I think they get genuinely surprised when the target of their attention does not crave fifteen minutes of air time unlike most of society.

Couple of years back a UK paper tried to do an article on the UK prepping scene and to their shock 99% of people told them no, and why because of the medias open hostility towards our community they did not want to invite the media into their lives. So they tweaked the story to make us out to be secretive gun nuts who MAY have a political agenda, even though most brit preppers dont have guns....................or a political agenda. Another TV company could not get any serious or established preppers to speak with them either so they went with a few of the more "unusual" characters on the periphery of our community and tried to portray them as what most preppers are like. The media wants shock horror high ratings grabbing stories about us, trouble is installing composting toilets, building raised beds, putting in a new fence, paying taxes on time, doing first aid courses, learning how to fix machines, getting a better education and wanting to live as independent of the state as possible is not good TV.

They want building bunkers, conspiring against the state, carrying guns, having secretive meetings, being extremists, forming illegal militias, Waco, Ruby Ridge etc

Exactly, your US media loves to trot out one lone nut called McVeigh but they are utterly silent over the state sponsored murder of an innocent woman and federal attack on fraudulent charges of the Weaver family in Ruby Ridge.
