Any thoughts or suggestions.

"NOT" Grey or Gray Man. But lurking, moving slowly, mostly blending in with the buildings. This is curiosity. Not intended application driven.

Totally unrelated comment: I recently came into possession of a very large & heavy duty "baby carriage/stroller", one of the few "quality" post-SHTF books had a section on this.

Work clothes or Coveralls......in an earthy color.

Some can be bought with a velcro patch to attach employer logos.

Combine them with steel cap boots and a hard hat if you want people to ignore you.

Carry a clipboard.

Why... Not just a "homeless person"? (costume, I mean..) Very few people 'pay attention' to such, and they can 'blend right in'.. 🤔

Aye, I've done Quite a few 'investigations' (for personal-recon reasons, NOT 'casing joints for nefarious purposes' ;) and that Never drew any suspicions - the Generic 'white utility van', and a white hardhat / boots.. and Yep, with a clipboard (one of those 'Aluminum docu-holder ones', even Better  ) and add a Radio / some sort of 'generic utility belt' / something-something Meter-looking something also, even Better Still.

..and "Be on the Phone", like yer 'calling the Office' / 'checking the specs against the install documents', etc.. Act like yer 'doing something everyday-mundane', and you'll blend right in to the "everyday mundane"... 👍

People don't seem to pay attention to what anyone else is doing these day, not like even 5 years ago, most people walk around with there eyes down in any very populated areas. around home everybody recognizes me , so no sneaking

ON the stroller Idea, not sure it make one less visible, an acquaintance uses one to take her Cats out in the outdoors, and say it draws attention, of course her maine coon tom on a leash also gets attention

Did any of you read my "book" on another site? The hero uses a shopping cart and disguise as a homeless vagrant to cross Las Vegas. Hopefully I'll get it on Amazon by Christmas.

I keep an old sun bleached beater car, for errands to blend in. Red Corvettes and fancy Jeeps are not grey man around here. In summer I wear shorts and an oversize fishing shirt and sandals. Winter a t-shirt, with an open levi shirt (cover garment) and either levis or cargo pants and some sort of hiking shoe. And either a camo NRA or 82nd AB cap. It blends in pretty well anywhere in the west, except Cali and Aspen. Then I wear Patagonia and North Face, or Hugo Boss. ;)

When I lived in central america, I didn't bother. When your the only gringo for 100 miles half the time, and you stand a foot above the locals, blending in doesn't work. So I opted for the, "I'm the guy you don't want to mess with look."

To me gray man and urban are somewhat interchangeable.. Small town Saturday shopping is one look.. Down town ..Wall Street.. kind of territory is another look.. It would depend..
....Bush.... dress could range from Gilly suit to ..ranch ware.. Again depending on location and your mission.. Or at this stage of life old ranch guy walking with a cane look... KnowwhatImean...

Everyone is so engrossed with their cellphones anymore that I don’t think it matters what you do to blend in. You can be on stilts, with purple hair, and a flashing light up pantsuit and I don’t think anyone would notice. Although, with the way the woke world has gone, that all may make you blend in even better. Gray man or rainbow man….either way….

I'm all for blending in, but nope...no blue hair or tattoos or piercings, or woman looking like a man thing. So best for me to stay out of liberal cities because I stick out too much.
But I do blend in where I live. We all look the same. Pretty much.

Geesh, you have no sense of adventure. You would look great with blue hair 😂
(Joking of course)

I was thinking about this SD. I’ve not been to Alaska and don’t know where you are, but I have a couple of thoughts. In our town Main Street buildings can be painted one of three colors: black, tan, or dark green. Obviously here wearing those colors would provide subtle blending in. If there are general popular colors there or where you are going, wearing those shades would help. If there is a strip mall store or lg medical facility, those are usually a neutral color scheme. The other thing up there I would say to consider is the weather. If it’s grey out, wear greys. If it’s bright and sunny out, wear lighter shades/colors. Not sure if this is what you’re looking for. 👀

https://www.homesteadingforum.org/threads/urban-escape-and-evasion.14022/

I took a class on urban escape and evasion a few years ago. The final day was spent in downtown Atlanta being hunted by professionals. 8hours and i was injured before the class began. Being hunted while hurt adds a whole other level of complexity.

The key to success was continually changing my appearance and movements to mimic my immediate surroundings. For example, around lunch, people move faster, busy going to and from lunch as opposed to mid afternoon when people moved much slower, window shopping etc. Changing my appearance was easy once I got the hang of it. Swipe a waiters vest off a chair or the gold mine... a laundry truck from a uniform service company. Just have to use your imagination.

This class was a hoot! Wish I could have taken the week long version.

Actually was NOT looking for Grayman. But it is fine the thread went that direction. Was looking more towards things like how to wash all the phosphates out of your clothing. That might not be the thing that sparkles in the dark with just a little light. It is something in detergent.

And moving slowly at night in urban shadows. I think they market a special night urban camo pattern. I think it has a surprising amount of different shades of blue in the pattern and some other colors.

Think lurking or sneaking around in a downtown or industrial area at night.

I waited to post because I didn't know how to separate the two. Urban camouflage is part of the greyman basic skill set. Can't have one without the other. Sort of like trying to discuss pipe wrenches without mentioning pipe.

In a lot of places now, in an outfit like that you would likely be elected there mayor.. And agree.. The number of people looking at there phones that don't notice anything around them you could be wearing nothing but moccasins and a smile and no one would notice.. It seems a full time job watching out for the ..phoneidiots..

This is more "like" you're going to commit a small crime. There are no people. but you just want to be a shadow. You stay as "short" as you can, as small as you can, totally quiet, you keep looking down, so the cameras that are everywhere can't I.D. you. Maybe if you are white person, you wear black face paint and black gloves. Maybe you walk with a slight limp. You want to become the night. You want to become the shadow. You move from one dumpster's shadow to the next dumpster's shadow. You hear the dumpster truck emptying dumpsters; you estimate the truck is two maybe three blocks away. There are no people, a fair number of cats. Some "night-birds".

These days a paper mask to hide your face would fit right in to the C-19 scare.
Shades on a cloudy day may draw notice, if someone is looking for you.
Most people do not care, but LEO's are trained to look for oddities in the crowd.
Hats & hoodies are a good cover, like the cover all posted above.
It is best to stay off the street or buy a few thing to make out like a shopper.

...You hear the dumpster truck emptying dumpsters; you estimate the truck is two maybe three blocks away. There are no people, a fair number of cats. Some "night-birds".

..and as you calculate it's now only 1 block away - providing sufficient 'white noise' / obfuscation for the immediate theater - you quickly transition Out of the shadows, behind your 'homeless shopping cart-pusher' get-up, and as you inconspicuously crane towards your "Target" - timed perfectly with the apex of the trash-truck's cacophony...

...the only sounds Next heard - but Only to yourself, the Target (well, even He doesn't have time to 'register the sound', in reality..) and apparently a nearby cat who startles a hiss - are the FAP... ***.. tink.. tink... ***... tink... of the suppressed .22s swiftly both adjudicating and adjourning this episode of 'Night Court'..

..and then a Thwump... 'NuuuuuuuuuuHhhhhhhhhhh...'.... and as the trash truck rounds the far corner, flushing the corridor with its ballyhoo, a thrice of barely perceivable squeaks escape your cart-wheel, as you deftly scoop up the spent brass, and sharply dip down the adjacent alley, quickly disrobe the 'costume' into one of the soon-to-be-emptied dumpsters, park the cart.. and then slip quietly into the shadows once more. 🤔

Or something like that. :)

Ah ha. I don’t use laundry detergent. I make my own laundry soap. Yes there is a difference. Also white vinegar in the fabric softener receptacle rinses the clothes better rather than adding more chemicals to the mix.
