Didnt seen this at the forum so I will ask about this type of purification. What do you think? We are using mini Sawyer, Lifestraw, Katadyn, some purification tablets, making our own bottle filters and what about ultraviolet? Some of us, or most, having generators so it maybe also good solution if we bug in, homesteading, etc. Do you have any experience with that type of filters? Any recommendations?

UV works on many levels but IIRC its not 100%, I see them used on Aquariums to kil algae and parasites but it often requires DAYS of continious filtration of a tank to get rid of alage and parasites, Also UV requires power supplies. HOWEVER UV is often used in association with other filtration systems. Personally I still prefer to rely on GRAVITY FILTERS like the British Berkfield.

Good morning to Poland from Germany, UV will indeed "help" to get water to a drinkable stage. BUT if you are using any type of plastic bottles or bags, do not forget that the BPA content of many plastic stuffs can and will cause impotence. (no more children from your genes). Please, all reading this, do your math and please google:
Jim Humble and read his story about using MMS to clean your water. I am and have been using this chemical process to clean food AND water for many years now. Absolutely NO side-effects. Pissed on by the Pharmaceutical companies, because it works and is cheap!! Make your own decision and your own opinion.
The German Medical Ministry put out a Warning Bulletin on MMS! They said it has a 'lethal dosis' of 262 mg. per kilogram of body weight. OK, a normal mixture of MMS
contains approximately 0,006 mg. of LETHAL DOSIS. (((They did not mention that aspirin has a ld of 162 mg./kg body weight OR that coffein even has only 65 mg./kg.
Your cup of coffee every day, is 4 times more lethal than my MMS))) Live free, GP

PS: in Europe we buy the box of "Aqua-pur" for sterilising our Campertrailer water tank for 18 Euros ($20,00) in the Pharmacy. Same stuff, different name....

Thanks for reply. SODIS method seems to be fine in California ;) (for example) but not in cloudy Poland. Works only in summer - still, better knows this method in any country.
I will be searching info about British Berkefeld - what is most interesting is the cost of exploatation? And Im thinking also about UV filtration systems. Good solution suppose to be fairly cheap and compact (spare parts like uv lamp or filter cartridge).

Guys check out your local Pond and Aquarium shops they often have assorted UV systems in stock for tanks / ponds ranging from 5 gallon to 50,000 gallon. You can get UVs buklt into tiny internal aquarium filters aas well as external canister UV filters and also Inline UV filters. I say filters but they are sterilisers.

Switzerland has been producing a lot of handhelds with pumping action and UV built-ins. Here are some of the places I checked for filters for my spring well:
1. waterfilteringmag.com
2. aquasana.com
3. springwellwater.com
4. kinetico.com
All were interesting depending on your well depth and the $$ you have at hand. GP

I think the pump type filters have their place but those moving parts are going to wear out and fail sooner than later. I did a lot of research on filters a long while back and the gravity filters are the best in my opinion. Simple, effective, renewable, and long lasting. Like SE I have two Berkey now, and may add a third just as a backup.

Yes MMS, (chlorine dioxide) is awesome stuff, so many uses. It destroys viruses, cancer, parasites, bacteria.
