Here's some info from a local blogger that is also a history buff. He walks his dog Molly every morning and she gives him insight.

Somehow Molly The Wonder Dog has gotten the idea that I was suppose to buy her a bunch of chocolate for tomorrow's big holiday. She's going to be disappointed when I don't. The real message here is another lesson from history. See, the Romans started this whole thing off with their holiday of Lupercalia:

"... seems to be that the Roman festival involved two nearly naked young men slapping everyone around them with pieces of goat skin. According to the ancient writer Plutarch, some young married women believed that being hit with the skins promoted conception and easy childbirth. ...."

Then the Catholic Church came along with their martyrs:

... supposedly a Roman priest who performed secret weddings against the wishes of the authorities in the third century. Imprisoned in the home of a noble, he healed his captor’s blind daughter, causing the whole household to convert to Christianity and sealing his fate. Before being tortured and decapitated on February 14, he sent the girl a note signed “Your Valentine.”

... another saint named Valentine during the same period was the Bishop of Terni, also credited with secret weddings and martyrdom via beheading on February 14. ....

It appears that the Catholics had a hard time with this Lupercalia Holiday .... naked guys running around and women participating:

... with a Christian effort to replace the older holiday of Lupercalia, which Romans celebrated on February 15. Some modern stories paint Lupercalia as a particularly sexy holiday, when women wrote their names on clay tablets which men then drew from a jar, pairing up random couples. .....

The church moved their Valentine Holiday to cover the same date as that nasty Roman one. BUT, at first, the churches idea had no connection with Cupid ..... until:

In the 1370s or 1380s, he [Chaucer] wrote a poem called "Parliament of Fowls" that contains this line: “For this was on Saint Valentine’s Day, when every bird comes there to choose his mate.”....

This imposition of one groups idea over another group has been going on for eons. The libtard progressives are desperately trying to do this same thing now. They just hate the American ideal that we grew up with. The idea that just because a skin is white ..... to these white libtards, that makes a person racist. Whats even more astounding is the solution that these liberals have:
Supreme Court Vacancy: No White nor Male Folk Need Apply
... Biden’s desire for black representation in the Court should come as quite a shock to the esteemed Justice Clarence Thomas, against whom Biden attempted to carry out a “high-tech lynching” in order to prevent his selection just thirty years ago. ...

The other astounding evidence that we have is that only white people seem to be affected by this self-inflected mental disorder. It appears these liberals are adamant in their efforts to suck us down with them.

Speaking of mental disorders, I'm sure there's a name for those who see an action ..... but completely ignore it. Kinda like our current Olympics where China is extreme in there repugnant treatment of those they control ..... and our libtards ignore that but pee their pants on the Jan 6th riots ..... oh yes, lets not talk about any antifa riots being ignored.

Again and again we hear judy woodenhead on PBS say there was no voter fraud, awww do you think she's got her libtard goggles on? ..... Peanut is desperate to hide how his junta is illegitimate:

Ah yes, another old folk tale coming back to warn us. The old Chinese one of the three moneys; See No Evil, Speak No Evil & Hear No Evil. It's just that Peanut and his minions have changed the meaning of See No Evil to that of ..... it just didn't happen, I didn't see it ..... I'm looking right at it but I just don't see it ..... Question Authority .......

Valentine's day cupid is from Ancient Greece and Rome. While I think it is great to show our loved ones we care, the business of it being on a particular day is something that I wrestle with. I do not like that everyone runs out and participates in such things because someone said so. I prefer to show genuine love at times when it happens out of need or spontaneity.

Overall I agree. I try to show my love and compassion daily. I am alright with having a "holiday" or date to celebrate. To me it is going a bit above such as a home cooked meal by me or dinner out, or whatever. You gotta do you.

I've never really looked at it like a religious holiday. I just see it as a day for sweethearts and to share love be it a spouse or children or parents or friends. A day for love. If we celebrate things like results of wars, I actually like that there is a day to celebrate Love.

I found a bag of Dove dark chocolate hearts for husband for tomorrow. He will love them, his favorite.
He gave me some roses today, and they're real nice. I'm sure there will be chocolate tomorrow.
Little granddaughter had a party on Friday, because there's no school on Monday. They had a great time, and she loves reading through the valentine cards she had in the box she decorated. Remember those days? Fun!

Tomorrow's going to be hectic at work so today, I made Hubby tenderloin, delicata fries, dried apple pie, and got vanilla bean ice-cream. He's a happy camper. I sent my kiddos each a box with some homemade goodies.

We've had some "conversation hearts" on the counter all week, slowly disappearing. You know, those chalky little hearts that have something on them like: U R A Cutie. They even have updated ones that say: text me. I bought each of the grandkids a small heart shaped chocolate box.

I have a string of pendants I made with hearts and one of my favorite quotes: Shakespeare
Doubt thou the stars are fire
Doubt that the sun doth move
Doubt truth to be a liar
But never doubt I love
