Lost a former battle buddy the other day to the darkness. He celebrated fathers day on Sunday with his wife and kids and on Wednesday ended his life. I am not sad for him or his loss, his war is finally over. I feel for and am a bit angry about the family he left behind. A wife with no husband and kids with no father. But I don't know the battle he fought inside or if anyone saw it and tried to help. He lived in Kansas and everyone is being pretty tight lipped about the circumstances. Just the same...

22 per day, on average.
The American Legion is serious about this.

My VFW and Legion buddies know that I'd rather listen to them, than listen to their eulogy.
We have a saying: "When the demons come, reach out to me and we'll fight them together".

I have first hand knowledge. In 1988 I had the barrel of my M1 Garand in my mouth with my thumb on the trigger. It seemed to be my only option left. Then I heard my VA counselor's voice saying his favorite thing - suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Today I realize that was really God's voice I heard.
