my friend tok m to town thsi week for my once a month shopping / errands day. hit a couple places to pick things up and end with the dreaded walmart run.
i had a good size list, and looking for sales and things to stock up on in both food, clothing, supplies, etc. just general shopping i do 1x a month for whatever is needed and looking for sales..

at the self check out my friend was running things thru to be rung up and after filling some bags as there was a bunch of little stuff , the computer thing froze. the light went on blinking and a nice lady came over to look at it. she had to push some buttons and told us we had to check out and pay for what was rung up as there is now an item limit for transaction and it was 125. so if you ever have over 125 items, the self check out with freeze, you need someone to reset it but you must check out and pay for those items and then start over with any other things. so the 125 itmes my friend scanned and rung up had to be cleared off by ending transaction and paying for it and then start over with the few remaining things--i think there were 4-5 little things left like toothpaste, batteries, kitchen sponges--.

it was irratating walmart lady had this blank look, just said new spftware update the other day, guess it is wanting to limit purchases. didnt make sense to me.

so wondering if anyone else has run into this.

...Reason #154 not to go to squalmart  .

I used their selfcheck today. I'm tied to that place, my folks have all their meds sent there. They have so many different scripts and doctors it'd be a monumental task to switch.

I usually avoid self check but will say the software has gotten better over the last decade, it's pretty painless. They used to lock up over stupid things, would turn on the red light because the 50lbs of dog food and 2 cases of soda won't fit on the scale to weigh properly. Used to annoy me to no end!!! have to pick up 50lbs, wave it in front of the bar code reader... add $$ to the total... then it locks up because it's to big for the freaking scale! Idiots! I figure walley got software people that were to dumb for microsoft.

Today i had dad with me, needed to get him out of the store quickly. Only had a few items and every open register had several full carts waiting so... I was out in 5min.

I do much the ame thing. All of our meds are sent there, and they are the cheapest in town. I try to avoid the self-checkout but will use it if I only have a few items. I have not heard anything about them (self-checkout) going away. If they do I would expect them to be replaced by another AI system. They will do anything and everything they can to eliminate people.

I'm betting SCAN WITH YOUR PHONE!! Digital currency at it's finest!! Control over what and how much you buy and your online bank account!! Don't want to do it, no shopping for you!! Once digital currency takes over there will be no more 'I'm not participating', no more 'I have a flip phone'!! You will have and use a device to access your money, or THEIR money!!😮

We were in Safeway a few weeks ago and no one would use the self checkouts. The self checkout wrangler was doing her best to push it as the the lines of the 2 human checkers filled up. About the 3rd time she asked me I said did hell just freeze over? No I don't think so she said. Well don't ask me again until it does. Naturally there was a lot of snickers and laughter.

I've never liked China-Mart, aka Wal-Mart, but we'd go there once a year anyway. Since they tried making me wear a mask during the phony China flu scare, I vowed to never step foot in any of their stores.
Also, unless I get a discount, I never use a self checkout machine unless I only have a few items and the regular check out lines are long. I think it would be pretty irritating to get stuck behind someone with 125 items to scan in self check out.

I've seen that self check out is probably going to go away from many Walmarts.
My Walmart just got a 2-month remodel. They expanded the self-checkouts. A much better layout than previous, and finally put some at the retail side instead of just grocery.

In my part of the world, COVID fixed a lot of the BS with the software at most stores. No more getting mad if I take a bag off. Produce got 1000x better to weigh and lookup.

Agree on produce, sure way lock up the system when they first came out. I wouldn't use selfcheck if i had produce in my cart. Much improved now.

Funny, wouldn't think so but wally has some good produce. Around here they sell a huge volume so some items are fresher than the high end stores. I rather get average lettuce that's fresh than pay more for higher quality that's sat on a shelf for extra days. Fresh peppers, mushrooms etc are better at the highend store so I usually split my produce shopping, some from wally, some from the pricey store.

one thing to watch out for

in my order i got 2 pork roasts on sale. wanted to can up some bbq. price was good and use by date was 12/28--which im sure is why ity was on sle. ive bought sale meat items many times before and never had any problem ever.
this time when my friend cut open the packed to cut it up for me it smelled real bad. he opened the 2nd package and that also stank. both were spoiiled.
like OLD spoiled meat smell.

real shame.
check your stuff.

I imagine Walmart is doing this for theft protection. They probably identified that thefts often go along with large multi-purchases. I remember reports a while back of them having people checking your receipt as you exited the store as well. My guess is that the typical Walmart customer may not exactly be trustworthy. I hate to say it, but I can easily believe this. Doubtful that Walmart is doing this to piss off and drive off their customers, although that may be a side effect of it, a side effect that Walmart is willing to accept in the grand scheme of things. I will say that going into a Walmart is different than going into any other store. And not in a good way. I avoid it personally. You could add up my entire lifetime's worth of Walmart purchases, and the grand total wouldn't even come close to this new "125 item" checkout limit. It's just not a place I like to shop at.

Walmart probably figures, "Yeah, we'll piss of some people and they will not shop here anymore. But balancing that out will be the money that we don't lose to theft." Pretty sad when those thieves are the scumbag customers you have to deal with at your establishment (they're not actually "customers", they're just simply thieves).

I've been to a few different Walmarts and there are people standing at the door to check your receipts and groceries. I always get waved out without checking my receipt and cart like Costco does. Maybe I look honest? Or maybe my purchases are small?

Our net nanny is tough. I didn't expect that one to offend him/her.

I even said it again in the same post, but due to a typo of the second word (I left off the second "f"), the nanny deemed it OK.
"Yeah, we'll piss of some people and they will not shop here anymore.
I'll try to be better net nanny. I didn't realize that was offensive. 😇

In our area, they only check your receipt if you have items that are not bagged. Otherwise just wave you through.

I often see other people get their receipts checked. I have no idea why they check some people's and not others. I see them checking other people's stuff and they don't look questionable to me.
If your avatar is a picture of you, you look very sweet, innocent, and trustworthy. I wouldn't bother to check your receipt either.

I do. They call it "profiling", as if that's a bad thing. FWIW, I profile every single person I encounter. The people who don't do this are often times called "victims".
