Good read on constructing Waste Oil Burners (heaters), my Granddad talked about these a lot and big back in the great depression though more simplistic then some in this article.

One of these would be great in an outdoor kitchen/shop area used for canning and such. I don't know about putting one in the house because I have no clue what the insurance people would have to say on the matter. With an outbuilding, I don't think they'd care too terribly much. But it would be nice to be able to make soap and not freeze while doing it or stink up the house with the lye.
