I did a bunch of research on wells,,,,,,it will last longer than a new born baby's lifetime ,I read 200 years
 
If you have a well and good caps topside not much to worry about, radiation itself doesn't penetrate pipes unless air can get in carrying contaminated particles. Also remember, the air itself doesn't get contaminated, it's the very fine dust particles from the blast site the air carries (winds)

You can take an uncut apple that was exposed to fallout, with good water proof gloves just wash the apple with soap and water then rinse, the apple is totally safe to eat.
