Has there ever been a conversation about changing name of site ? The site name IMO keeps membership at a lower level than I think it could be....Doomsday makes it turn people away thinking just a bunch of nuts are the only one's who use it.....Doomsday is always a possibility in today's world, but I think site could garner more members and achieve more with a name change ? my thoughts for what it is worth....

Maybe clean up some bad posts as well. Seems like a for a while a couple members just trolled the site. I had to look around for a while, almost didn't join until I figured out they were no longer active.

I'm happy with the name.

so,your idea for a new name would be;__________

I think there is a lot of people who want to know more and want to be more prepared and self sufficient who are also hesitant about joining forums....or forums that with no intended malice may be named such that they are even more hesitant.....What would be a name that would attract and keep more members ? Realistic Times Prepper's, Modern Life Readiness Preppers, Emergency Survival Preppers, Survival of the Prepared Preppers, I don't have the answer, but maybe it should be kicked around and discussed......I never said current name was bad, but this forum is severely lacking in membership numbers when it could do way better, which IMO would benefit the site and all members.....like I said a thought I had....

If the powers that be are happy with the way it is now, then so be it.......I see more potential with a larger base of members. I also know a lot of people realize that a Doomsday could happen and a lot of those do prepare for bad times, getting those into the fold would hopefully get those same people to open up and really get involved...we all know people who know a Doomsday is possible, but don't like talking about it because they are afraid of what family and friends would say....let's try and bring some of those in.....

I'm fine with the name. It's Clyde's site. Its his choice if he wants to change the name. Im personally not interested in belonging to a site that tries to appeal to the masses. There's a very small percentage of the population who even try to prep or who want to live independently. I've been a member here for a few years and have seen a lot of people come and go. I wouldn't expect that to change regardless of the sites name.

I'm thinking the way Doc does, to be honest, and, this is my thought,it doesn't take long before those who is/was offended by the name starts to dictate
what to say..so we don't offend someone

I did not start post to give in to those who may not like name of forum.....I am the last to want to change name just for that reason.....not what I posted.....kick me if wanting a forum to grow and appeal to more people.....there are plenty of good forums with simpler names that more people belong to.....never said Doomsday did not or would not be a strong subject on this forum or any other.....Majority of Preppers don't prep for Doomsday....they prep for floods, no electric, storms and such....Doomsday should be a Thread and conversation on every forum....even on this forum Doomsday is not the main topic....do you make people think that this forum is useless because Doomsday is the first thing they see ? or do you want them to see that the content is way more ? a name that may get more lurkers who end up joining to me is better than people thinking we are Doomsday nuts and move on....and regardless there are a lot of people who see Doomsday and think it's a nut site....I'm am done with it and you can delete it.....

My only problem with the name is that it seems to be connected with a certain TV reality show. That connection might be what throws people off.

Does Clyde still exist? As an administrator of the forum? It isn't readily apparent by the admin activity on the site. As someone who has been just a little active for a week or so, I don't see it. I need proof of life. If people are thinking a name change is required, or membership is lagging, the first line of defense should be mods/admin.

I have been a mod, on another site (unrelated to prepping), and except for Roninsensei, it seems like other mods aren't active. Am I wrong? Clyde still exists? Roninsensei is just waiting for the right moment to clean up the crap posts on the site? Because we are going back to 2016 here lol...

Before I changed the name, I would have a honey-do list of other activities to make the site more appealing.

Bottom line: the name is not where I would start. Admin needs to reach out to mods, and members need to stop waiting for others to add content, and be more involved. That's what makes or breaks a site, IMO.

Once my business website is up, I would be more than happy to link the site, but that's just ONE link, lol.

Hardly noteworthy.

We are all by nature somewhat reclusive, and leery of social media. We may need to be happy with what we have. But I am more than up for the discussion, and I totally get that older members have more say in things, as well they should. Respect. It's a real thing, even online.

First indicator of whether or not this discussion even matters: 30 views, 10 replies, and multiple replies from the same people.

Members, or guests, are looking at this post, and either not fully reading it, or don't care either way.

If you are a member, and have an opinion, lets hear it.

If you are a guest, you might be thinking this is a discussion that needs to take place behind closed doors, in a moderators only forum. I don't know that such a thing exists.

So how many active members have seen this post? A name is a big deal...

5? 6?

Mods, step up to the plate.

Ok. Maybe 7 now, lol.

I’m not worried about the name of the group. Hell, doomsday is relative to who is doing the talking.

I agree about the cleanup, too. My opinion is that part of the signup explicitly states that your butt will be banned if you’re only on here to sell something, or anyone selling needs to have prior admin approval.

Clyde is still around. I think he’s in stealth mode. I’ve caught him viewing posts occasionally.

Not just the "hard sell" posts, some of the aggressive banter could go too. Maybe it doesn't bother some people, but I dont have time for some things. As for activity, I get that if you do something for years, its not as exciting as when you are just starting. So of course, a member with 5000 posts probably is going to get burned out.

I would like to see 10 other people posting projects in the DIY section, though.

The name is ok, IMO.

i'm VERY happy with the name, "says what it does on the can", i'm fed up with prepper lite forums.
