I know it won't mean much to most of you, but for the Europeans I have a Westfalia lazer 2000. It's a basic model, but the thing that sold it for me was the motor and fan on the top.

I have a basic model that looks like yours Jim, but it has a fan and multiple settings of heat. I use it a lot. Jerky is my favorite, but I dry fruits as well. One thing I can warn you away from is beets. I got the urge to dry some, and they were really, really nasty! Just trust me on this....

I have a NesCo Dehydrator. It has the top mounted fan which I really like cause it makes clean up easy and also an adjustable thermostat.

i didn't expect a top notch dehydrator when i got it.and i thought of having to come up with something to put on the bottom rack to catch the drippings, when i noticed the location of the heating element. but yet no problem if it works..
