What Is Your Favorite Part Of Prepping & Preparedness?

Prepping, or becoming prepared, can be as simple or in-depth that you make it to be.

Some people take prepping pretty seriously. Beyond just Level 2. There certainly are lots of areas of potential involvement.

Regardless of the extent, we all have our favorite areas of interest. We tend to spend more time working on that thing (or those things). Why? Because we enjoy it, whatever “it” is.

For example, one of my favorite areas having to do with preparedness is alternative energy. My education, background, and work experience lends itself to this category (among others). Between that, my interest in Off-Grid self-sustaining solar power, and my desire to be prepared for any length of “grid down”, it’s one of my favorite categories of preparedness.

It was my first project that I undertook after having moved to my current location. And I spent a lot of time (and $) getting this done. Though it never seems really done because of tinkering with additional aspects of alt-energy for my home.

So that’s one example. It’s different for everyone. There are many topics within the genre of preparedness. Some of them are interesting for some, while not so much for others. That’s just the way it is. We all have our unique interests.

What are YOUR favorite areas having to do with preparedness? What do YOU enjoy doing in this regard?

It’ll be interesting to discover what each other enjoys most about prepping. Not so much the “why”, but the “what”.

Ready? Set? GO!

I'm not prepared, I don't even know what "Level 2" prepping is:(. I can do days/weeks/maybe months, after that it's all a crapshoot. My weakness is oil lamps, I have enough to light the darkness for a long time :)

No particular part is my favorite, I like knowing I have preparations in place for some emergencies and can provide for my family in those events.

My favorite part of prepping is knowing that I can be less concerned with the worry of the world because I am not going to be screwed the second the sun flares, the pandemic hits, the EMP pops, the gov't collapses, etc. I am confident that my family and I can face anything that would realistically effect us for a comfortable period of time.

I am very much a thinker, a planner and I love logistics.

The mental side of preparing in playing what if.........how would I.......? Can I do that with what I have on hand?
Where would I find it if I didn't?
Where can I get it now?
Etc.

Being disabled I am using that skill set now with almost every physical undertaking.
Having to think it through, be adaptable, use my imagination, and sometimes just suck it up and get er done and deal with the physical fallout after the fact in a matter of fact manner knowing it was going to hurt before I started.

Like you Tank Girl, I like to think through situations and plan for the "what if's" in life. It can be a blessing or a curse, depending on how much you let it sink in. It's a blessing when you think it through and get the information and supplies gathered to prepare for the "what if" scenario. It provides a nice feeling of accomplishment. Then again, it can be a curse when you think you have it covered and realize you really don't. If you think on it too much, you can get overwhelmed with it all and it can bring you down. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

I do enjoy finding new gadgets that I think will be really handy if SHTF. When we find something like that, we usually put it to use in the camper first. We've camped for many years now, so we've got lots of camping gear.....most of which would be very handy in an emergency situation, including the camper itself.

I do love collecting books. I have a huge library that I will never read though, and it makes me happy. I have used "prepping" to justifiy my book addiction. Ahhhhhh, who am I kidding?gaah LOL!

I guess if i'm honest the best part of it for me is the food stockpile, checking and restocking, knowing that we have enough food for ANY sort of emergency.

But, do you have it all stored in one place? That's my challenge. I have a good sized pantry but most of it is in one general area. I'm having a difficult time trying to find other places to store it. One freak fire, flood, theft, etc. can destroy everything you've worked so hard for if you have everything stored in one place. Just food for thought.

My favorite part of prepping is finding out that ultimately, I didn't need to. It's nice to see that the lights are still on, water still flows from my faucets, and I didn't need to shoot anybody trying to raid my house for supplies. It's like insurance, you hope you don't need it. I read some things written by hard core preppers and I swear, they must be wishing and hoping that things get really bad just so they can use all their stuff. I'm not like that. I'm not going to burn down my house so I can get a good rate of return on all the insurance payments I've made over the years. So, prepping is good, but actually needing it is bad.

at the moment its in 3 different places. not all within the house.

Not sure what my favorite part is, probably growing food, knowing how to grow it, and put it up to eat during lean times. Trying new types of seed to see what works here and what we like best.

I'm a planner and organizer by nature, so I'm always thinking thru different scenarios and ways to work around them. Off grid stuff, weapon, hand tools, they way to do things without power. There is so much it is impossible for me to even relay it all.
