personally I think everyone should have some military training like the do in China, or Israel, women too
Can't speak for any/all time periods but back when I was in the Marines, they had something called "80-day reservist" Basically, you're an inactive reservist who serves 80 days (the length of USMC boot camp). If something breaks out, active duty first, active reserves second then they call up the 80-day reservists.

As for age...

My son is in his early 20's & fit for service. I'm in my 60's. If they're reinstating the draft, I'm going to tell them to take me instead of him.

I've gone through USMC boot camp. Once you do that, you don't have to do any other boot camp ever again so I can just skip that step.

All I ask for is a ride to the battlefield (I'm not walking), a lawn chair, ammo, soft toilet paper and decent enough food that I don't get the runs. I'll bring my own rifle(s).

I have enough maturity to act rationally. I've been around the block enough that I won't take crap from anyone, especially someone that's shooting at me.

I'm done fighting rich people's wars.

There would be some benefits for that. But I'm kind of the opinion that the government shouldn't have the authority to require everyone to serve unless there is an actual war. We have enough government in our lives, we don't need them requiring our young people to serve too...
they dont need to serve in the military but some basic training would do all of them good, bunch of fat lazy kids sitting in front of video games.

If I was called up now I would moat likely be assigned to weapons design development or production. I wouldn't be a good addition to physically demanding job but I have over a decade of experience on various military projects.

Yea, my forte is tech skills but if it was me or my son on the front line, I'd like the spot. After all, I did require a lawn chair so I'll be good. ;)

If we get a conventional war run by the military industrial complex I hope enough people disagree to have a civil war right here.
If it goes nuclear or limited nuclear they may want my skills since I mainly guarded and assembled tactical nuclear weapons.. We had our own deuce and a half van to ride around in so no running up hills.

As far as the younger generation not being fit to fight that probably describes a lot of people but here in montana there are still some skilled hard working young people who hunt and fish and are used to hot and cold temps....... properly supplied could take on anyone.

I can't believe that we're even contemplating sending our young men off to be killed for some shythole country like Ukraine of all places. Why?!? It's so GD stupid that we'd even think about such a thing. Just say F NO.
Take a look at who's trying to start this war. Is there really anyone here who would be willing to send their sons or grandsons to die for Joe Biden, Zelinsky, the deep state, WEF, NATO, UN, democrats, RINOs? Ridiculous.

Are we scared yet?
There's nothing the leaders love more than fear. All is by design to keep us all jittery and fighting amongst ourselves.
The fighting is what it's all about it's very good for profits.
A little war here, a little war there.
If they had wanted to kill us all off they could have done it by now.

... And they damsure don't want to recruit us old fogeys!
Imagine troops that are singing: "The worst you can do to me is, end my suffering:waiting:".
Well, it might be one way to get rid of a bunch of old people that they see as a burden on society. I doubt that would happen, but strange things do happen.

This is one of the reasons that people emigrated from Europe. They were tired of being drafted to fight in wars that they had zero interest in. I don't know about all countries, but in Bohemia, now Czechia, men were not allowed to marry until after they served in the service for 8 years, except for a few reasons. They were drafted at the age of 20. If their commanding officer found some fault with them, they could be kept in the service for much longer. They could be denied permission to marry.

A "Safeguard" :

Several questions concerning the draft arise each time the United States is
threatened with military action, or the United States threatens military
action.

The first, and most basic, is: “Is the draft constitutional?”

The plain answer to this, noted in the introductory paragraph, is that it is.

Conscription is clearly anticipated by the Constitution. The Constitution did
impose one small but key restriction on a conscripted army – any allocation of
funds to support the army can only have a life of two years. Any allocation
thereafter must be reauthorized by Congress. Since the House of
Representatives is elected every two years, this is a safeguard against runaway
armies. If the people are not satisfied with the way a draft is being run,
they can elect a House that will not authorize further funding.

Any place in the Constitution that has a minimum age or maximum age listed for draft?

Here.
The law is described in Article I, Section 8 of the United States Constitution and 10 U.S. Code § 246. Such conscription would apply to able-bodied men between the ages of 17 and 44 who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, U.S. citizens, as well as women in certain health care occupations.

It will be easier for me to pull.out my copy than try to read that on a pdf.

Do you know if it says?
One Can make that pdf. BIGGER...

During WWII and up to the end of the draft after Vietnam, the age was 18 - 36.

I worked with a guy in the 1970’s who was drafted in WWII at age 36 and made an infantry rifleman. He was wounded in France.
