I am curious who uses it and if there are special groups that you have signed up for? I once saw someone, I believe in another preparedness group, who mentioned that he liked Reddit, but I didn't think to question him about what groups he was involved in. I have had a membership on Reddit for a while, but have never really used it.

reddit: the front page of the internet

Reddit is a network of communities based on people's interests. Find communities you're interested in, and become part of an online community!

I do know people who use it for various things of interest. I had the impression that there were some sub-reddits about prepping, but I have not had much success. I was hoping someone might be able to steer me to some of the sub-reddit groups about prepping, homesteading, etc.

Reddit is what we used to call "Newsgroups" in the early days of the internet. Except you use a web browser to access it rather than a dedicated newsreader program like in the old days. "Newsgroups" also morphed into "Forums" like we are using right now.

If I'm searching for something and a link pops up to a Reddit thread, I may look at that thread to try and find my answer. Usually the answer is not there, but sometimes it is. I do not participate in Reddit in any way other than occasionally reading historical posts that pop up in a Google search.

Reddit and Pinterest both have useful information but you have to filter out the chaff.
This is accurate. There are several Reddit groups that I'm a part of - r/Ruger, for instance - and those are enjoyable for me. But there's so much garbage on reddit, it's kind of like picking through the dumpster behind a McDonald's. You might find a cheeseburger in there once in a while, but most of it is just trash...

No

None of you may be interested, but I have been visiting Reddit every day and have been working on using it. This is really because someone on another site suggested it a while ago.

What I have learned:

You can sign up to receive notices about the topics you are interested in, such as Preparedness. Once you are signed in, you will not get all the notifications that everyone everywhere shares. You will only get notifications for the topics you are interested in.There are community groups. You can sign up for information about your community, if there is a group for it. I see all kinds of information for my area. The topics are all over the map. There is a group for Mandalorian, where people can go and discuss it ad nauseum. Or finances, or cooking, or almost any topic you are interested in.

I have been fairly active on Reddit for one year, as a registered member. Today is considered my first cake day, or anniversary there.

What have I learned? Whatever your interest is, you can likely find a sub reddit group there for it. I belong to a prepper group there. There are some fun sub groups that are much more popular. I actually was first made aware of Reddit by a friend who belongs to the group: AITA, Am I the a**h***? Another sub group is called Petty Revenge where people tell about experiences they've had and what they did in response. Another interesting group is Neighbors from hell. Just like here, you choose what topics you are interested in, join those groups and get notices on a home page when there are posts in your groups.

I see groups for herbalism, herbs, homesteading, and much more!

Like this forum, topics are posted, and then people can respond, ask questions, give input.

It's not for everybody, but r/roastme is one of the few things on the internet that has made me laugh until I cried. The ridiculousness of people posting a picture of themselves and asking to be insulted is a riot. There are no rules, nothing is off limits. If your sense of humor is a bit twisted, it's very entertaining...
