I am only posting this article because it's a perfect example of prepping becoming mainstream during a crisis, and also pointing out how so many people wake up to prepping AFTER it is too late (or too late to do it easily and cost effectively). I would be willing to bet many of those people will go right back to living their normal life when the ordeal is over too, having learned nothing.

These are uncertain times. Americans across the country remain scared and more importantly confused about when the dangers of Covid-19 will start to diminish- and when things are going to go back to normal. Depending on who you ask, the answer to this could be a matter of weeks or a matter of months, and some states are starting to take notice on how bad things may actually be getting.

In states like California, New York, Oregon, New Jersey, shelter in place orders have already begun, and while grocery stores and essential functions remain open…the uncertainty of the future looms large.

So how can the average American be prepared in case things go wrong? Many are recommending to stay armed (never a bad recommendation) but other than safety, your primary needs during an emergency includes food, water, medicine, and tools you may need for survival.

While you can certainly find most of the the above necessities separately, certain retailers have prepared kits with everything you need to survive for a few days on the go in one bag.

One company, Outbreak Provisions has begun to sell everything you need for a survival situation in handy packages depending on the size of your family.

To learn more about these survival kits, be sure to visit Outbreak Provisions directly here: htpps://outbreakprovisions.com

Remember, you never know when you may need to leave at a moment’s notice so having everything you need in one place should give you an edge in a variety of situations from fire-starting, to water purification.

Each kit features a large duffle bag with multiple pockets and wheels for easy mobility, and the items in each kit fit the following five standards for emergency survival:

Food and Water: The food and water in this kit have a 5-year shelf life, and are meant to provide nutrition for 72 hours.

Light and Communication: These items can come in handy if you experience a home power outage, car trouble, or other emergency.

Shelter and Warmth: These supplies will protect you from wind, sun, rain, and other harsh conditions.

Tools: These items can be useful when you need help with navigation, transport, personal protection, or shelter.

Hygiene and Sanitation: Hygiene is important in a disaster; staying clean can protect against infection, disease, and depression.

Outbreak Provisions was founded on the goal of being prepared during outbreaks, pandemics, and other emergency situations.

Be sure to check out Outbreak’s 1 person, 2 person, and 4 person kits for yourself for everything that is included in each kit, but rest assured the kits will cover you for a short period of time for emergency travel situations.

Additionally, be sure to consider whether you are prepared for the long term, as based on CDC and government information, sheltering in place may also be the best case scenario for you depending on circumstance.

Stay safe!

That's just bug out bag stuff. With food supplies low, people can shelter in place with whatever food they can find. I'm with you, I think if this calms down this summer, people will stop stocking up. Wondering if anyone will grow anything, and then need to can it? Will there be a run on canning jars?

There are always large sales of canning jars but I doubt there will be much over normal. The people that normally can have their supplies and few classes will be taught to those that don't already know. I have plenty of jars and lids. Some will want to increase their inventory.

I'm already sheltering in place. It has been a week and we are discussing when to make the first run to the store. The wife got the senior only schedules for each store. The three local stores that we use all have special hours for seniors. I cancelled one medical appointment but will keep others. Mail runs will be weekly, if we have packages.

I've been ready. This sort of "event" is what we've prepped for so we have no problems with staying here. Like I said in another thread, I went to the store for somethings that would make the stay inside a little nicer but I don't really have to have them. I can deal with that if I have to.
We have plenty of things to do around here. You usually do if you own any amount of acreage or have a home.
Plans for the garden, trimming back bushes and discarding the branches, rearranging supplies, or work spaces or sheds, etc.

I don't get the "panic" or "fear". Nobody is freaking out over the regular flu and it kills plenty of people every year.
I know...this one is worse.....are we sure?.....
Use common sense and follow instructions and you have a very good chance of not getting the darn thing.
I don't know. People now-a-days are such sissies and believe every hype the media scare them into believing.

Was reading on twitter where some one said that since california has shut down the state lines the power was going to go out. Now why would someone think that let alone spread such disinformation?
Its ridiculous

The State controls utility pricing. CA puts tons of regulations on all their businesses but make it impossible to properly maintain the right of way. These rules have caused fires that killed people and destroyed many homes. They had power outages all last summer due to State regulations. They are teetering on collapse of their grid now. It wouldn't take much to tip them over. I expect power outages this summer without any of the new problems that just got thrown into the mix.

We are prepared for a little while but if it gets that bad what we have will probably be taken . Unless peopel join together to survie but not likely in the beginning.
I hear sweeet potatoes are easy to grow I know about 20 yr ago we grew some whoopers! Forgot we planted them and not good at gradening and hubby was at work so waited till I was digging in soil to find them. Must be easy to grow.

We have hens for eggs but need to try beans, again this year.
