@Tirediron
I have a project idea for you if you can find the parts

You need 2 hospital beds
2- single bed metal frames
Re-configure the motors

Ok. There's your parts
Make a full size or king. Frame
That lifts up like a craftmatic bed frameo

If you need hospital beds call your local hospital.
They may have old beds to get rid of.
We replaced 10 beds and we could not get anyone to take them so we hauled them to an auto wrecking yard and paid them to take them.
Hospital beds people use at home are also hard to get rid of.
After my brother died nobody want his almost new bed.
I called the Salvation Army and they had an immediate need for one so if I would bring it to them they would take it.
I drove the 45 miles and gave it to them.

I will have to do some research, on the concept.
and thing hospital usually goes thru provincial auction sites so I will have to have a look, there are all kinds of uses for salvageable metal things

Check the loading dock area of local (small) hospitals. I've seen old beds just sitting on the dock many times. Same problems as backlash described, can't get rid of the darn things.

But... by the time you haul it home, repair the broken parts, replace the mattresses... it's cheaper to buy an adjustable bed. Like every thing else these days, nothing is made to be repaired, cheaper to replace the whole bed.

Basically
Build a wood box. So that 2 single metal bed frames fit. The head of the single frames orient. Right and left
So the frames are sideways
A. Is the head
B. Foot
C right
D left

Put hospital bed. Under single bed
Hospital bed orients head of bed matches head of wood frame

When the hosp bed raises. It raises the bed frame with the mattrrsss

Remove leg lift motor and add it head of bed. Side by side with other motih

@Peanut
Those adjustable beds are $1000
You can scrounge for free or buy a garage door opener for less than 200
I made one years back But the wife did not like it. All I had invested in it was welding rod and bandsaw blade
And my time

But I got the beds free

Wow If I was near you I wold take ever one
The metal frame makes for a nice target stand.
Not to mention a decent small knife blade.
