Anchorage farmer Dale Marshall again won the giant pumpkin weigh-off at the Alaska State Fair in Palmer — this time setting a record for the largest pumpkin in state history.

Marshall’s giant gourd weighed in at 2,147.0 pounds, according to a Facebook post from the Alaska State Fair.

He will make good money selling the seeds, the winner pumpkin always collects a premium for the seeds.

Those giant pumpkin species don't make good pies. They are bred for growing, not flavour or texture. You could make a pie from one, but you won't win a pie contest.

We have some neighbors who grow giant pumpkins (2'-3') for their kids. It's annoying because I can't plant any of the good squashes or end up with giant squashXpumpkin since the bees don't know how to keep them separate. And yes, flavor and texture are compromised.

I like bacon fried pumpkin. thats what you do with the big bland ones.
You can run a wick to the roots and feed them sugar water to make them
sweet.
